The Utah Jazz, according to The Salt Lake Tribune, exercised Jamaal Tinsley's 2012-13 team option on Friday.

The team now has four point guards on the roster after trading for Mo Williams, which means Devin Harris or Earl Watson could be traded. The most likely to be dealt is Harris. It says he's probably going to lose the starting spot to Williams.

The Jazz may sign Williams to an extension.

Dallas may need to bring in a point guard if they lose Jason Kidd to free agency and lose out on Deron Williams and they might have interest in reuniting with Harris.
 
Too many ifs. I don't see keeping both Williams and Harris. I know KOC will talk about "competing for minutes" but we won't be keeping two 30 year old PGs that are paid more than 8m each. Also, Watson pulled that "I deserve minutes no matter what" public stunt last season, so maybe he'll be gone too. I suppose it is best to wait and see.
 
Of course Harris is on the block - if The Jazz start the season with a back court of Harris/Williams it will be a disaster on many levels.
 
I would like to see the jazz trade Harris AND Watson. Then bring in a young pg to groom for the future maybe such as

Aj price
Daius Morris
Randy foye
deandre liggins
Randy foye
Patty mills

Or trade for Darren collinson.

Steve Nash is in that mix too with all those same teams, so I don't think that will necessarily happen. Free agency working itself out will definitely clear the picture on who some potential trade partners could be though.

I bet Deron stays in NJ/Brook and Harris goes to Dallas. Apparently Harris was originally going Dallas in the Mo trade. I bet Dallas just wants to make a run at Deron, then do the Harris trade. The question is, who comes back from Dallas for Harris?
 
Another question, if the Jazz send Harris to Dallas for the trade exception, do they get it for another year, or does it still expire in December?

I thought Dallas created a NEW trade exception by shedding salary. That means it's valid for another year, no?
 
I would like that. Have Deron stay in Brooklyn, the Mavs send us a pick and the trade exception back.

We would have a new trade exception. Trade exceptions aren't traded, they are created. If we gave Dallas Harris with no player coming back we would have a new Harris-trade-exception (rather than Memo's)
 
anybody who thinks that mo automatically gets harris' starting spot hasn't looked at what the two have done lately. they are probably not that far apart in absolute talent level, but the areas where devin is clearly better are all the ones that translate to being a good point guard.

mo is a perfect bench scoring PG in the mold of jason terry.

The areas where Devin is better don't fit the team though. The areas where Mo is better fit the team.

I agree Devin Harris is the better overall player, but Williams is a much easier and more universal fit.
 
devin "doesn't fit the team"?? we have a ton of young guys that need the basketball. devin is far better at forcing defenses to react to him because of his elite speed and his ability to get into the lane. favors, hayward and paul will all have better opportunities to score if they're on the floor with devin.

mo "fits the team" better than devin in one way: he provides a needed shot in the arm in our long-range arsenal. but that doesn't make him a better fit as a point guard, and if he were our started it would take about three weeks for the players around him to get bored and the fans to turn on him. and if you don't believe me, go ask lebron and some cavs fans if i'm right.

again - mo will help, if given the right role. he can be our jason terry -- come off the bench, score in double figures, and often close games to spread the floor.
