To Tank or Not to Tank... That is the Question!

Do you think the Jazz should strategically tank?

The answer is - too late. The tank should have been the options taken the moment we lost Hayward, not in late December.

I don't think we will intentionally tank. However, the 2nd worst records in the entire NBA are teams with 11 wins. We only have 15. So it's not ridiculous to think that we could end up with a top half of the lottery pick if we keep playing like we are playing.

And if we do what we should do and trade Favors and maybe even JoeJ for an asset before they just leave, that should make us a little less competitive. At this rate, I'm happier trading Favors and Johnson and playing Bradley than seeing what I saw last night.

I'm a little worried that DM will become an elite player but will leave after 7ish years because he knows we can't add any elite level talent around him. Hopefully we are able to and if Hayward had just stayed the problem would not be as much an issue.

If DM is as good as it seems he will be, the Jazz are already on the clock and need to figure out a way to acquire legit bonafide elite level talent otherwise we are basically just Portland right? DM could be better than Dame because his defensive upside is higher, but who knows. say he is better than Lillard because of his defensive prowess, we still need more talent that what we have now and I'm not sure how we add it if not through the draft. And yeah you can find blue chippers in the 1st round, but its a lot easier to acquire them with a top 5 pick.

I just hope that if DM becomes an elite player, we are able to surround him with enough talent that he wants to stay. Quin playing lineups he knows are not going to be successful in an effort to vault the Jazz into the race for the coveted #1 pick would be something I could live with. That said, trying to make the playoffs as the 8th seed is something I'd be happy with as well though I'm not totally sure thats whats best for the franchise long term.

Say you are Dennis Lindsey and you had a crystal ball that told you Mitchell would leave first chance he got if you didn't acquire another star (and we also just experienced this with Hayward so the idea of it happening again puts a sour taste in my mouth). Wouldn't you tank this year, being the last year when being really bad has relatively great odds of landing you a high pick? Getting another star might be what we have to do to keep Mitchell here.

I get what you're saying, but Donovan seems to be a rare breed who actually likes it here. Not to mention he already does have a star teammate in Rudy Gobert.

I'm not saying we shouldn't do everything possible to add more talent to the roster, but I think it's too soon to be worried about Mitchell pulling an Assward.

Donovan’s dad works PR for the NY Mets. Donovan says he loves it here and he probably does. But he’s been trained in what to say and how to say it his whole life. I therefore don’t take his words all too seriously.

Donovan did say he scouted Utah and our Jazz before he even came for a workout. He like what he saw before met everyone. And then he praised them.

We just dont need to screw it up. And by screwing up, I mean lose more than win the next 3 years AND not make roster improvements around him.
