Tobias Harris?

Locke mentioned in a recent podcast he heard some rumors about Harris being interested in the Jazz. Assuming that as true and if the Clippers were convinced they'd lose him without compensation, could a deal centered around Burks (expiring salary), Bradley (young talent), and a 1st work to get him you think?

It would be enough.

I don't think it would be smart since you could just get him with cap space the next offseason if he really wants to be here that badly. Furthermore, unless he signs an extension, you risk losing that 1st (and Bradley, I guess) to rent for a year.

Tobias Harris is a great fit.

If he is interested in us to the point where there are rumors circulating, the Clippers would be wise to trade him now instead of losing him for nothing next summer.

Fair point. The thing is though we're projected have a ton of cap next offseason, contracts we sign now will probably cut in that. We also will probably look to extend Rubio, which will cut it further and Harris might command a fairly large contract as teams should have more room next offseason. If we nabbed Harris now, it may solve a few issues.

We need to get greedy... need to get guys for nothing... if clippers start sucking and we can get him at the deadline for a 2019 first I’d probably do it... otherwise we sign him outright. Let them risk injury until the offseason... unless he just want to stay in LA we have a more appealing situation.

If the Clippers are struggling halfway through next season (and I think they will be), Harris could be had for relatively cheap.

Yup price now would be a premium and there is a chance we get him at a deep discount later.

I’ve long been a fan... would prefer Harris over Love. If he played good defense he’d be fantastic... he doesn’t doe. I would prefer Khris Middleton but he may be more spendy.

if u have a choice, do you prefer Harris or J. Parker?

I would take Harris for these reasons:

#1 - Injury concerns. Parker has them and Harris doesn't.
#2 - Supposedly, Harris is an amazing teammate, great lockerroom guy. Not necessarily a negative for Parker, but a positive for Harris.
#3 - I think Parker would be a distraction. There would almost be more pressure and attention on him here than there would be elsewhere due to his faith and Utah. I could be wrong here, but I don't think there would be the same level of potential hysteria for Harris and I don't want anything to take away from this being Donovan's team.

Agreed. There is less risk if all else were equal. Parker may turn out to be great, but those knees will always have to be a concern.

Tobias Harris is one of my favorite stretch 4-ish players in the NBA. He'd be an amazing fit with this group.

I'm all for being strategic and getting guys on bargain deals, but the Clippers would have enough suitors for him that someone would be willing to give up good assets for him. If we could trade this summer for #21, Burks, and a filler you 100% do it.

I’d be thrilled with Harris. Not sure he can be a #2 option though on a championship team tbh. But he def makes us better and maybe matures into a, I don’t know, Paul Pierce Lite or something.

Would love to get him next summer from age 26-30. He’d be hitting his prime. Mitchell and Gobert would be maturing as well.

Just not sure how much I’d want to pay him. More than about 17M and I’d be scared.

Yeah, I agree. The contract situation scares me. If he truly wants us, then I want to go after him now. If he fits and everybody is happy, he would probably work with us on the contract. If we wait until next summer, we would have to win a bidding war. The cap is supposed to go up to $108 or $109 for 2019 (from an expected $101 or $102 for this coming season). A guy like Harris could get $25+ in 2019 free agency.

Agreed. Harris would be just stupid on this team. Getting him now would also solve the issue with re-signing Favors, allowing us to release his hold and move towards getting something this year. If we could just do Burks, Bradley and the 1st; we solve an issue without totally hamstringing us this year and we have a favorable chance to re-sign/extend him in 2019. I don't see a down side here if the interest is legit and mutual.

PG: Rubio/Exum (2 yr/5 to 7 m per)/FA pickup
SG: Mitchell/Royce/#21
SF: Ingles/Crowder/Royce/#21
PF: Harris/Crowder/Ingles
C: Gobert/Harris or FA pickup.

That's a nice line-up.

Did we trade 21 or not?

Ideally, we do the trade in the summer: Burks and our 2019 1st for Harris. We would have the cap space to absorb more salary if we renounce Favors. That trade isn't very strong for LA, but this whole idea is based on Harris wanting to come to us and they might lose him for nothing.

However, we could trade Burks, Bradley and either #21 or the 2019 pick during the draft. Not sure which pick I rank higher but I would take the weaker one since we'd have to give up Bradley. http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y7rgwlbh
