What's new

Tobias Harris?

The thing is - if he doesn't want to stay - you waste a long term asset on 1 year rental.

If he wants to stay you settle for him and won't be able to pursue top tier FAs. If you get him and you know he is staying, this is your team. No Klay/Butler/whoever you like in 2019, no PG13 now... no... whoever is going to be FA in 2020. This is what you are tying yourself to as the high end acquisition for this team - Tobias Harris

Idea is this summer. That said, if it needed to be a draft day deal, we do that and give them 21. We'll just grab depth elsewhere.
It can still be the rights to whoever we draft at 21. Preferably next year's pick, though.

I dont think LA does a deal until the deadline. But you never know. If Harris really wants to play for the Jazz, he might be able to force a deal so LA gets a decent return.

I would definitely prefer Jabari to Harris. Jabari does have a slightly higher risk but a much higher ceiling. Jabari has already had a better season than Harris. 16-17 Jabari put up more points on better shooting, more rebounds, more assists and a better PER.

And one more knee blowout and he may be done. No thank you.

In my opinion, there are more crucial decisions to be made this summer than I've seen in a long, long time. When we look at a trade target like Harris, it really impacts so many other areas. If you put up every scenario on the board without taking into account trade targets, you could have 1000's of scenarios. I guess if the goal is to have a max guy in 2019, some of these choices are clear. If you want to win as quickly as possible around Ingles and Gobert's primes, you take what you know you can get. Lots of decisions...

Just 2018 - Is Favors staying? Do we keep Exum, and if so, for how much? What do we do with the 3 nonguaranteed guys who could make a combined $13 million? Do we trade Burks? Do we keep Neto? Rubio is in a contract year, do we extend him?
Favors (UFA)
Exum (RFA)
Neto (QO)
Thabo (7/1 deadline to pick up his 18/19 salary)
Jerekbo (7/9 deadline to pick up his 18/19 salary)
Udoh (7/9 deadline to pick up his 18/19 salary)
This doesn't even count the decisions on the draft pick, free agents, trades, etc.

No, just one can end a career. He has recovered just fine from his previous injuries and are not necessarily a concern in regards to a 3rd injury.
Lmao. You say anyone could have a major knee injury and be done, yet Parker with already having two major knee injuries it’s not a concern, that’s logical.

I did not say it was not a concern. I said he was a higher risk but a better player with a higher ceiling. I did say his injuries are not necessarily a concern in regards to a 3rd injury.

Pretty much every player recovers from ACL injuries now just as strong or stronger. Why did he need a second one? I dont know. Maybe a mistake with the first surgery, that would be my guess.

Just the latest sign of the shirt in perception of the Jazz among the players of the league. Something DL has been building brick by brick, day by day. Then Mitchell came along and bam! Done.

I like Harris a lot and think he would be a great fit on this team. If Otto Porter is getable then I'd prefer to go after him, I think he has a higher ceiling than Harris.

Certainly either Pprter or Harris may be available at the deadline if Utah just re-signs the non-guaranteed guys. Then you have those 3 and Burks as expirings. Throw in the 2019 first and see which team bites.

If I was to rate Parker Porter and Harris

I would first say Porter because of his defensive versatility. He fits the model the jazz are building. He is an amazing shooter also. Him and Ingles starting and the lane would open like Moses parting the red Sea.

Harris isn't far behind and could be the secondary scorer we need. Harris could be had next year probably easier then a trade.

Parker is nice but his history is a major concern but when he proves he can play injury free then he becomes to expensive. He isn't a great defender and that is another concern

Just fyi, Parker looked TERRIBLE in the handful of games he's played this season. Small sample size, but it was painful watching him in the first round. Not even G-League level.

Harris is an actually good player.

Let’s play hypothetical and say we got Harris and Porter. Are we contenders?

Rubio / Beverley (because I like to pretend any LAC trade nets him)
Mitchell / O’Neale
Porter / Ingles / Thabo
Harris / Crowder
Gobert / Udoh
