Tomic's highlights, he might be the solution for lakers big

Has good touch like Gasol on the J, but I saw something from that video that scares me when under the basket he is as weak as Ak getting the ball striped. I know it's not fair to judge a guy from one utube video, but that's what I saw from the highlights.

Astute. He looks VERY weak to me. He could not back down his defender at all.

he has very quick feet and soft touch. had a good block in the lane and has a good focus on rebounding. putting on weight is far easier than teaching a 7'1'' guy to shoot from 18 ft......

i say buy him out

For some perspective.....

Tiago Splitter out-performed Tomic when ever they faced each other. Notice how Splitter is doing in the NBA so far....

They definitely have similar body types for this stage in their careers. But Gasol is exceptionally skilled. Who knows how Tomic's skills translate.

He looks to me like one of the keys the Jazz need: size at the C for good minutes with offensive skills. Looks like he can score and no one plays D for ole Jer anyway so that don't matter.

The other key is to get a better SG or play the other ones we have. Dump Raja and find someone else.

i dont think SG is much a concern now since we have CJ, bigger concern would be wether to keep CJ or not when his contract is up, this high school kid will demand salary like Wesley matthew.. not sure if jazz can afford that!

There was one play in that video I found very encouraging. Tomic had the ball in the low post, back to the basket. he dribbled a bit, working the D and watching where everyone was going. He saw something, passed back to the wing, very quickly reposted closer, got the ball back and went up instantly and scored. Very skilled, very good vision, very nice work. Beyond anything I have seen AJ doing.

I don't think it's fair to compare him to Gasol or Yao.. If he ends up being even a decent center he could be huge for us. We should definitely buy him out and hope he can give us a solid 20 min at the 5. Anything more would be a bonus imo.

That said, he does look weak and no way is he 260. He needs to add a lot of strength but he looks to have a nice touch and is decent around the basket.

Ok so the buyout is currently at $6.8 mil. Any amount over $500,000 goes toward the cap. That amount can be spread out over the length of the contract like a typical portland 'toxic offer'. I couldn't find what he is currently making to get an idea of what his market is. Based on the highlights the guy shows potential, but doesn't look like he is going to dominate right off the bat. Maybe he can be an upgrade right off the bat. My only worry is having to pay too much for another project.

Just so everyone knows, this game was close to a year ago (uploaded 3/10) and it's actually been posted before (probably on the old board). I don't know how much weight Tomic can put on (you're ****ing up in the night to compare the builds and frames of Gasol at any point in his NBA career and Tomic), and I don't know where exactly you got his weight or when he was weighed. If that is as or more recent as this fall then it would make more sense.

However, it's also worth noting that Tomic is insanely tall and 260 really isn't great weight for such height. The strength he showed in this video was actually rather discouraging and his performance in the FIBA tournament besides a couple of games was very discouraging.

I won't write him off, but I'm not expecting anything to come from this, either. If the rights to Tomic meant the difference between completing a trade to definitely make the Jazz better now or not, you'd have to be nuts to not deal those.

He misses a lot of the shots he takes in that video you posted.... doesnt seem like NBA material to me yet... that's probably why he isn't over here yet...

The Jazz do have a history of finding diamonds in the rough at the center position. Just look at the history of our 5 spot since Eaton. I sense big things for Tomic.
