Tough Day To Be In Law Enforcement

I'm watching your country burn on my TV. Its an all too familiar scene, if you don't think there is a problem with race and law enforcement in America you are part of the problem.

I wouldn't have minded being a teacher. I almost became a German professor, in fact. Did a summer gig in Germany at a university in fact. But in the end the money was the real stumbling block for me. I've probably made twice what I would have made as a teacher or even a professor in my current profession. At least 50% more overall.

I hear sailors are generous tippers...

This probably isn't going to help things in Minnesota tonight. Expect more burning.

Seriously? The cop had his knee in the guy's neck for 9 minutes. This family needs an independent autopsy.

There's something fishy about this line. Potential intoxicants? Why include that line before a toxicology report come back? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but that doesn't seem normal.

Example 23,058,574,045 on why Fox News is a plague in this country without which, a president like trump wouldn’t have been possible.

This seems like a dumb thing for police to do especially on live tv. We have some real dumbasses in this profession.

and the dog whistle here... about as subtle as it can be... goodness Fox News sucks

I don’t typically comment on out of context words, but his comment, which was made after his comments and feelings regarding George Floyd, was that the policemen’s behavior was an insult to police and policemen.

thank you for the correction. I’ll delete my original post.

I mean I guess part of what you are saying is true... but it’s not like I needed to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law to learn the lesson... I adjusted behavior and the officers treated it as a teaching moment without being bullies or abusing power.

But that's not their job. It's not the job of a police officer to teach you lessons or to decide whether you need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. That's the job for very different institutions. And yes, it's an abuse of power when a police officer decides that they are the ones who interpret how and when a law is applied. Judiciary does that.

So another video where I saw three cops on Floyd. Awful.

I agree with Thriller. A college degree, paramilitary-like training like State Troopers (at least here in NJ) get, thorough background checks (including past social media posts), and mandatory annual physical and academic requirements to keep up to par. And thorough investigations into misconduct by an independent team.

No more fat, racist, dumbasses.
Doesn’t that exclude half your country tho ?

Anybody with those qualifications will work in the private sector for 2x the pay

Thank god i live in country where police officers frequently visit kindergartens and schools, are being good mentors and teach kids about when it is OK or not OK to do this or that. I also advise my daughter that whenever or whereever you are in trouble, in most countries police is on your side and are helping you and can use their own brain instead of thinking whether they are 100% following their orders and law or not.
Of course, i do not envy the job of the police in USA. Maybe police should go to a nationwide one week strike so all those who say that police is brutal and not doing their job and it is OK to destroy somebodies else property can witness on their own eyes whether it is good or not to have police around.

Not necessarily at all. In his third year out here my buddy cleared 100K as a cop, with all the overtime he took. He probably made around 130-140K by the sixth year as I remember the jumps being high in salary over his next few years. Many cops out here make over 150K once they’ve put in a good ten years. That money, days off, vacation days, pension and lifestyle are far more attractive to someone who doesn’t crave sitting in a cubicle.

And that pension is huge. They can retire by the time they’re 47 (if they start at 22), collect a fat pension and then get another job in the private sector, clearing (yes, clearing) around 150K if not more. That’s after taxes.
