Trade down with Suns if we don't get top 3

Detroit and what makes a "star"

Besides chemistry issues, Karl Malone was injured and couldn't play. However I think you are discounting detroit's team. Chance Billups was an all-star, Ben Wallace was defensive player of the year, Rip Hamilton was a very good player and I believe he made the all-star game and Rasheed wallace despite his antics was an all-star caliber or all-star player.

However, I agree with you there is no way the Jazz should do that besides they are not going to bring on 4 rookies. I don't even like the selections made.

Would you consider Chauncy, Rip or Wallace in the category of star you think is necessary to win a championship? I think not. If this were so, every decent playoff team would have that type of "star" People are generally talking about transcendent superstars like Kobe/ Lebron/ Bird/ Magic/ Duncan (let's say top-10, not top-25 type "all-star"). If you say "top 25" is required to win a championship, then that is just stating what is pretty obvious. What are the odds of the best team NOT having one of the top 25 players in a 30 team league?

The Detroit team effectively makes the counter-argument, that it is possible to win a championship team with great team play, chemistry, coaching and a stable of really good but not phenomenal players. (how likely is this? now that is debatable)

Jazz preference according to Chadd Ford.

Chadd Ford's top Jazz picks: Parker, Wiggins, Emiid, Exum, Randle, Smart in that order. From playing lottery game a few dozen times until I could rank all versus the other.

Idk.

Thats a tough one for me..... i would do it for wiggins, but probably not anybody else.

I think that favors and gordon is better than just parker.

I guess if embiid was healthy i would probably do the trade too.
Good question though

Would do it for Wiggins too. Hard to say That I would do it for anyone else.

Not that anybody would but if we ended up with the 6th pick would you be willing to trade that pick and favors to move up to top 3?

It is a good question. Parker right now is Carmelo without the attitude. He's not a complete player. Get Embiid (as long as he's medically ok) and I'd be willing to part with Favors. Then you have 2 players who are true centers (Embiid and Gobert) and Kanter at PF. You can either keep Marvin, or shop for another PF to play behind Kanter. No, I'm not including Evans because I don't see him as a 4th big. He's a 5th at best and his contract will be up in another year. Wonderful person, but shouldn't be in the long-term plans of Utah as a major part of the rotation.

Wiggins is a potential superstar. Parting with a big is painful, but I think the Jazz should roll the dice in that case. Tank another year by giving Gobert 30 mins/per with Kanter getting the rest. Then look for another big in next year's draft. Or draft and stash Nurkic for a season if he's there at #23.

In the end, I predict Vonleh will be our pick at #4 or #5.

Vonleh, Really? I could see the Jazz going with the safer pick and taking Randle. But Maybe Lindsey will be enough to change what we usually do.

Yes. Randle is a bull, but has limitations. His wingspan is less than 7'; Vonleh's is 7'3." I think Vonleh will have a better career, even if Randle is ahead a bit right now in terms of his skillset.

I would consider trading Favors to move up, but I would definitely be willing to let Alec or Kanter go long before Hayward or Favors. I know there is a lot of sentiment on this board about Hayward sucking balls, and that Alec needs to start over him, blah, blah, blah, but Hayward and Favors are the closest things to special players we have right now. Seriously, what other 4th year player averages 16, 5 and 5? Hayward is good, Favors is Good, and Burks is somewhat less good. To me, Kanter is a guy who has potential, but is a mess.

MCW was averaging 15/5/5 pretty much all season.

And what did Hayward numbers net Utah? 1-14 start. The worse record in the Western conference. Don't get caught up into numbers get caught up into impact. He was the 1st option offensively and the main ball hander. Don't get me wrong Gordon is a real quality player and I'd argue with anyone who think he sucks, but he isn't "that guy" IMO. Honestly if the Jazz keep Hayward it'll most likely be a step back for the team at the price they'll likely have to pay.

Of course Hayward isn't that guy. There are like four guys in the league who are good enough to be "that guy". And even if Hayward gets the four year max, that is not even close to what the best players in the league get. If the jazz lose Hayward, it will definitely be a step in the wrong direction, unless it is in a trade for a better player or prospect.

Dennis Lindsey talked about possibly trading the GS pick because they already have so many young guys to develop. Now you're suggesting 3 of them? No thanks.

Anyone care to explain to me, why the suns are at #14 in the draft when their record is better than 4 other teams and are tied with 2 other teams as well? lol

14 teams that don't make the playoffs get the 14 lottery slots. Happened with Utah last season. Jazz' record was better than Milwaukee and Boston, but the Jazz (and Dallas) had higher picks.
