Trade for Giannis?

Not sure I like the trade everything concept for a superstar idea
Lakers did that for Doncic and are about to get eliminated
They have Lebron and Doncic and nothing else
I like the stockpile talent concept until you get a great team
Yeah... how's that been going lately?

I like the stockpile talent concept but it takes too long and you don't know how your draft picks are going to turn out. We all know Utah has a problem bringing in big names in free agency so the main way to get a big name is trade or draft and hope. I don't like "hope" as a strategy.

The trade for a superstar isn't always great. Some guys are high priced and past their prime but their name draws fans. Ask the following teams how that is going.

Lakers - Doncic
Philly - Paul George
Phoenix - KD and Bradley Beal

If we had Flagg and were working on a Giannis deal I wouldn’t let trying to keep Lauri hold things up. He can go
You can't build a team around Giannis and Flagg. Not on the same timeline, Giannis will be able to leave before Flagg can hit his prime. If you're trading for Giannis, you have to have a winning team in two years. If you're building around Flagg, you want to peak in about 5 years. Not compatible.

If you get Giannis, you still can't contend without two other all star/borderline guys to lead the team. And if we traded for Giannis, we wouldn't have enough left to get two of those guys. Realistically probably not even one, unless Ainge pulls off some kind of miracle. So if we try to trade for him, we absolutely could not include Lauri in the deal (unless we also brought another all-star talent back in the same deal somehow). Which more or less eliminates us from being in the running.

I'm seeing rumors that the Rockets could get Giannis for Jabari Smith, Jalen Green, Reed Sheppard and picks. Those guys suck.

If I'm Milwaukee, I'd call Cleveland and ask for Mobley, and maybe even Garland on top of that.

The rockets sure would like that, I'd be shocked if they actually got him without giving up either Sengun or Thompson. Not gonna get Giannis without it being painful.

Sexton/Collins/Kessler would give the Bucks 3 starters to compete with. Add in 5-6 picks and two young promising players, and that's a good start to a rebuild where you dont want to lose.

Bucks roster could look like:

Sexton
Porter Jr
Kuzma
Collins
Kessler

With Collier/Hendricks off the bench? They could sign someone with the MLE to round out the roster. The East is so bad and teams will tank hard next year, so they could possibly make the play-in with that roster.

Or maybe you get Flagg and you trade Flagg/Collins/Clarkson for Giannis w/ a pick or two?

Then turn around and trade Kessler to another team for some kind of haul.

Like lets say you get Giannis for that then you trade Kessler for Austin Reaves.

Sexton
Reaves
?
Lauri
Giannis

Bench: Filipowski, Sensabaugh, Procida, and Williams.

Maybe you then use part of your MLE to grab a guy like Taurean Prince? You could also continue to trade picks for an upgrade on the wing. Since you dealt Flagg you gave up minimal picks to Milwaukee, so you would still have plenty of ammo in the clip for trades.

The fully developed version of Hendricks would look great in that spot. I think Giannis would still be carrying a huge defensive load with that lineup though.

Yeah, but Hendricks would probably get moved. Yeah, it would have defensive holes, but that's where you eventually upgrade from Sexton and whoever the 5th starter is.

Cross your fingers and pray Williams develops.

Been going back and forth with guys on twitter and its kind of hilarious to me that people view this potential trade as an all star player. No, this is one of like 7 guys you need to win a title and he is still in his prime... also his Diva/Ego Levels are incredibly low for a player of this ability.

If Rockets get him its because they offer up Amen or Alpy with stuff.
If Spurs get him its because they offer up Castle with stuff.
If Toronto gets him its because they put up Barnes and stuff for him.
If we get him its because we put up the 2025 pick (and it was #1 or #2)

I will allow an exception if SA/Houston end up jumping into the top 4 and then offering that up as the blue chip asset with their other stuff.

Fans will be fans. The package they wanted for Lauri is greater than the package they think can get Giannis.

It just feels like we didn't have enough growth from your our young players to have enough rotation level players to surround Giannis with right now.

Its not fans of those teams though. Its other guys just pontificating. I have seen a little SA fan bluster of "we aren't trading Castle for Giannis" but that feels like the spoiled kids that think they can grow MVPs on trees.

Might be a hot take but I think he may not get traded this offseason. They make some moves around the fringes and maybe push one of their picks in to make it happen and Giannis is too nice to demand out. By trade deadline they make something happen maybe. IDK their situation is so tricky.

The reason why Ainge said he went with half and half for a second year is because he almost had a star trade in place. While I hated Ainge's smugness about another trade he didn't make, I'd agree that if you're wanting to trade for a star, you need to have the infrastructure around him to compete. We torched a lot of that infrastructure to tank. Even if we had the package for Giannis, I don't think we'd be a Giannis team.

With Giannis in particular, I think you need to be ready to compete immediately. Taking 1-2 years of his remaining prime to build the team is losing so much value.

Yeah, but if you can trade Cooper for him along with Collins/Clarkson, then you can argue that you would have to give up minimal picks to get Giannis. So you would still have a lot of picks left to make trades to fill the roster out along with dealing Kessler.
