Trade Idea with Golden State

I am afraid that if the Jazz do trade up to 5 it is to get Monroe, which makes me sad. I don't see how Monroe improves the team from a interior defense perspective. Monroe would be fantastic if we already had a strong interior presence, but I think he is too soft and while being a good passer helps, it won't mean much unless he commands double teams, which I just don't see.

Monroe does nothing to improve the Jazz. In a total dream scenario, it's a lateral move. Monroe's ceiling is a really nice complementary player with a noticeable lack of passion for the game and defense that will leave much to be desired, he'll never replace Boozer and he'll never amount to anything more than the team-mates that surround him. If the Jazz draft Monroe somehow and let Boozer walk, you can be excited for sneaking into the playoffs and Deron peacing out in a couple of years.

Cousins might suck, but he at least brings a damn ceiling to a team that rarely ever has one. However, if there's a chance for him to succeed, it's probably on a team with a coach that can match his temperament, a winning and stable tradition, a cast of high-character guys, a system that will get him looks, and the best PG in the game.

I agree NUMBERICA. I think Cousins is worth the risk. If his attitude remains in check, can you imagine the potential for his domination inside?

Spine-tingling. Watching game 7 last night, it's clear that intensity and a mean streak are as much an asset as any traditional skill and harnessing Cousins could be the best move this franchise ever made (trade-wise, anyway).

The last player the Jazz had that played with a chip on his shoulder was Karl Malone. We need that again to get to the next level. I think that Cousins will bring that.

Your plan is to rely on a guy who is slipping the lottery and has been compared to Derick Coleman to replace your 20-10 guy? Um ok good luck with that.

How has he been slipping in the lottery. He has been projected anywhere between 5-7 in mock drafts for months now and that hasn't changed. And as far as Coleman is concerned, he averaged 16.5 ppg and 9.3 rpg for his career and had several 20-10 years in his career.

He was in the top 3 for a while. The Coleman comparison is about him being a knucklehead. Not how they play. Coleman was a jump shooting PF with some inside game. Cousins is a big guy with no jump shot.

I personally think we should go after Cousins. He can play center and he could also play a little bit of PF. He needs to lose weight though. He is a tough defender. He has the ability to play now even though he is so young. We need his size and athletic ability.

I highly doubt the kings pass on Cousins. I think the Kings will be fielding offers for the 5th pick. But if they don't get an offer that wows them they keep it and have Cousins will share time with Dalembert.
Nobody else is as talented as Cousins. If the Kings draft Monroe over Cousins than the GM should be fired. And if we trade up to get Monroe than KOC and Sloan should be slapped. We don't fire people. lol
Monroe is a soft big man who will get pushed around. He is a good player but he doesn't have any potential and he also is a bad defender. When will we learn?

I agree. To get Cousins and GS would go for it I would do it. But to move up to get Monroe. No thanks.

Are the Jazz that high on Monroe to take him @ 5?

To me, a #5 draft pick is someone real good. Like Ricky Rubio, Jeff Green, Dwade, J-rich, Kevin Love, Vince Carter, etc. There have been a few bombs too, some foreigner that the Nuggets took and Shelden Williams. Hopefully if we do indeed get #5 we take the best player available and don't just fall in love with size.

to me, I see it being a real miracle if Monroe ends up being as good as Channing Frye. But perhaps I'm too low on him... Maybe I'm just not seeing what David Locke is seeing.

Wow. In the David Locke podcast Draftexpress' Jonathon Givony compared Monroe to none other than Channing Frye. Nice work, Chuck.

I agree. Not at #5. Nor at #9.
