Teams that scout and draft well, like the Jazz, will almost always have solid options inside the lottery. I'd much rather have the Jazz hope the player they pick is as good (or better) than any of the players listed above. I'd take any of them over Covington right now, and whoever the Jazz draft will cost between $3-4 million per year on their first contract, with Bird rights and the option to match any RFA contract offers.
Covington could be really good. We don't know because his team was garbage. Guys that can defend the wing, shoot the ball, and rebound like a big are incredibly valuable. He makes next to nothing for two years and can step in and contribute now. The more I look at Covington the more I would want him on our team.
I think we can find a player better than him, but the odds are around 50/50... add in that we get the 24th and 26th and we get two shots to land a winner. I think our shot to get a cheap contributor with two picks in the 20s are as good as staying at 12. As you noted Rudy and Rodney were both drafted in the 20s.
