Trade Proposal

I love Trey Burke but have never thought he was going to be a top 10, let alone a top 25 PG in the league. Don't get me wrong, I am not in a rush to sell him off, but I also think his value is more likely to go down this year than up. Also, lets not get carried away with talk of why would you give up on a lottery pick. Remember Chad Fords draft tier story... Trey was a tier 4 player last year which would have put him in the 20's in this years draft.

My reasoning: His shooting percentages I think have more to do with his athletic inadequacies than his shot, and as the Jazz compete more in a new offense teams will necessarily give greater efforts to beat the Jazz than they did last year. I don't think Trey's athleticism issuse are going to change going forward and as Exum starts to excel teams will start to view Burke as a backup, as will the Jazz. I think the league is still intrigued with his upside, but that will go down dramatically (and it will only take about 20 games for his value to evaporate) if Trey doesn't start shooting better, and continues to be a defensive liability... and both seem likely.

Conclusion: Sell as high as you can now, and start the Exum era.

Trade: Burke for McLemore #9 for last years #7.

Sacramento does because they deemed it necessary to drop a diminutive PG instead of giving him a huge pay day, but they still need a back up PG who can be a leader on that team, and has starter potential... right now all they have is a veteran back up who can start for a while. Also with the drafting of Stauskis they don't need another shooter as much and McLemore disappointed last year.

Why for the Jazz: We get a SG who has a pure stroke who struggled as I see it because he played for team of chuckers with no consistent culture or identity. He needs confidence is all, but that stroke is perfect. He is crazy long and athletic, and has the best stroke coming into the league since Ray Allen.

Next step after this is done: Just turn it over to Exum... give him the same time Burke got last year and let him develop with good ball handlers around him. Sign a quality vet like Earl Watson, and wait for it... possibly even signing Jimmer... Exum's size gives us that ability.

Exum/Watson/Jimmer
Burks/McLemore/Jimmer
Hayward/Hood

This guy was one of the posters i saw flaming the Utah Jazz forums on RealGM years ago, which led me to finding Jazzfanz.

Ben McLemore had 8 turnovers in summer league the other day, no thanks.

I would like people to try an exercise. Break your index finger on your shooting hand. Let it heal just enough to play basketball, then tape that injured finger to the middle finger. Now shoot and tell me how accurate your shot is.

If Trey shoots less than 43% from the field and less than 34% from behind the arc this season then you make a big deal about his shooting.

Holy Hell. Let all of these guys play in an actual system first before we start shipping people out.

Have some empathy for these guys. They played for one of the worst coaches this league has ever seen.

I am giving Hayward and Trey a pass (for now) on there shots as there seemed to be tons of confusion. Both didn't shoot the best wide open of course. but I think they both forced shots up that I didn't normally see the force before this year.
Let them buy into Snyders system and lets see what they can do. If Trey starts chucking. Bench him. Rather have Exum slashing and passing then watching Trey jack up fadeaways like he is Iverson. Let Trey play this next season first and see what we have in Exum and Trey before trading people away.

His shot looked bad at the scrimmage during the game and during shootaround. I think he waits too long to release his shot in his jump.... he almost releases it on the way down so it has no power.
Also he gets swatted pretty easily.

He just doesn't have the needed athleticism. He is DJ Augustine at best without the shot. Get something for him while you can. His value will plummet during the season.

McLemore is horrible. He is right now on the verge of being a bust. Trey is so underrated on this board. Kid has one bad summer league and the majority of people have jumped off the bandwagon and now are making trades to get rid of him. MClemore.. the next Ray Allen is going to be out of the league if he doesn't start making shots.

Trey was a rookie.. last year and performed decently except for his shooting. However his clutch shooting was above his regular shooting percentages. He isn't afraid to take the last shot like everyone one else on the team is. Stop with all these trade Burke threads, give the kid at least to the end of his contracts. It amazes me how there is a double standard on this board. Kid broke his finger too, so I am sure that didn't help his shooting.

Well then tweet Burke with you observations maybe he will make the adjustments.

Trey Burke is already a top 25 pg in this league. I'll name 5 pg's worse then him. Brandon Knight, Mario Chalmers, Jeremy Lin/Patrick Beverly, Jameer Nelson, Raymond Felton.

In all seriousness, Mclemore might have been the worst player in the league last year. And in all seriousness, after a week of summer league, he might be the worst player so far in summer league - and that is saying something.

I never wanted Trey to become one of our top three players. Name one team that has won a championship on the back of their point guard? I can't think of one right off hand. Sure, the position is important, but championships are won on the shoulders of the other wing players, especially if they can help handling the ball, aka Jordan/Kobe/James/Wade. It also helps to have solid post play, San Antonio has Parker, but it's usually Duncan that has been given the credit. My point is that with Exum, we may just have this piece, so even if Trey doesn't become a superstar, we are fine, and he's plenty good enough to keep on the team. And hey, there's nothing stopping him from becoming more than that, I just don't want to use the point guard as the scoring threat in our offence.

Ok, I broke my finger earlier this year. Took about 8 weeks to heal completely. I still can't shoot worth a damn, but then again, I haven't been a decent shooter since my teen years.
Just how long until we stop using Trey's finger, rookie "allowance," "coasting" because it's just summer league, etc. as various excuses for Ice Cold Trey's ineptitude? DUDE CAN'T SHOOT! And he can't get to the rim. And he's not a good defender.

Trey will not be a long-term starting PG in the league. Trey's ceiling is Earl Watson, who was a pretty damn good backup for a long time. Watson just had no gas left in the tank when he came to Utah.

Honestly I've been thinking we might see Burke go to Sactown now that the let Thomas go. I don't want Mclemore though. I would want me a sweet sactown first rounder.

Burke isn't our future starting pg. Sell

Burke isn't our PG. But as I've said numerous times on this board, why not have Burke bring up the ball and hand it off to Exum to create?

Less pressure on Exum, Burke can do what he does best which is handle the ball & dribble, Exum does the majority of distributing and making plays.
