Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

I think one of two things happened with the majority of people here.

1. They overrated the **** out of our own players.

2. They assumed we were getting two unprotected firsts from the Lakers for a starter and two bench players.

I can understand the frustration if you believed either one of those. I think we scrounged up 75 cents and turned it into a dollar.
I’ll add at least one more… people believed the reports that DA didn’t care about draft position and wouldn’t make a move to intentionally push us down the standings.

I think he thought we’d be mediocre and he’d have time to make a move… so no hard tank early. I think the start caught everyone by surprise… but then we struggled and it turns out we were kinda meh. It also turns out we still weren’t out of the tank race… so an opportunity arose and he took it. We win this season and still end up about where we planned.

Remember how hard we shopped Mike… found no takers. We got off of his money and it cost us a couple rotation pieces that weren’t part of the long term future.

Eh if i win the lottery i still dont flush money down the toilet. Thats just me.

I think it is more complicated than that. So, in your mind what do think the Jazz FO was doing with this trade if it is so awful. What was their mindset? I mean Kevin Pelton gave it an A- and CBS Sports gave it an A+. So who is wrong here.

Guys let’s be honest here, even the people that love this trade are either willing or unwilling to admit they fully thought the pick was and should be unprotected.

Finding out it wasn’t and that it would turn into a 2nd is a major letdown.

We are elite at making minor strawman arguments on this board, but let’s all just agree on this one fact, whether you like the trade or not.

It’s not what I’m saying at all… not even close.

It seemed like what you were saying. It came across as “we did so well on the gobert trade, why would anyone be upset that we lost some of that haul for an underwhelming return.”

The trade we did today is good or bad based on todays trade. The gobert trade has no effect on todays trade being good or bad.

Maybe you can explain it better or differently? I mean im trying. I give you the benefit of the doubt more than any other poster. I think you have the best basketball opinions and knowledge on here. But i just can figure out what you are talking about here. Sorry man

That’s super easy. I agree with that 100%.

Absolutely, it is a let down, but to me the ultimate goal from this is the chance at a much better 2023 pick. So, getting rid of these players for a ham sandwich would have been a break even for me, but we got the Lakers pick too. I’m easily pleased.

I think HH threw out a Conley/Olynyk/Gay trade for Westbrook and some seconds that I would have been happy with lol. Switch Olynyk/Gay for Beasley/Vando and we upgrade from seconds to a top-4 protected 2027 Lakers first. Sounds good to me.

I would have been happy with a mere 2027 pick swap.

If we bottom out really hard we MAY be able to catch the bottom 4 teams. But it should be easy to end up bottom 5.

Spurs, Hornets, Pistons, and Rockets all have 40+ losses. We have 29 now. The rockets have been turning a corner.

The magic and Pacers have 2 and 4 more losses than we do now.

We are officially in the dark horse spot for a top 3 pick. Perhaps we sold Silver on helping the Lakers out for a bit of lottery ball love.

Its 30 games of misery for:

Possibly a draft pick in 2024
A MUCH BETTER 2023 pick in a loaded draft
$60 million in flexibility

Danny should make additional moves to sell of pieces now. Whydufuh not?

I agree the impact to our trade position is a big bonus.

Clearing cap to sign free agents this off-season couldn’t and shouldn’t be the focus because I don’t see that being a big payoff. The bigger benefit of that might be absorbing contracts but I don’t see us making a major splash with the $30m.

Hope I’m wrong.

Agreed on any big signings, but I think the cap space will be for absorbing trades while staying under the tax. I think Danny will be very aggressive over the next two years with trading for upper echelon players.
