Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Capela was their 3rd or 4th best player this is the entire point. Why should you expect the Jazz to win if we swapped him with our best player? I think Gobert could have played better that series and Capela rose to the occasion in that series. Did Gobert really step up to help us win in that series? He didn’t hurt us but he didn’t do anything to significantly increase our chances of winning.

Only reason we even won one game was because of Donovan.
He did though... the defense was not the issue in that series... it was the offense that **** the bed. He could have played better sure... but if I suck at something and someone is awesome at something and I end up holding my own it doesn't mean I outplayed them... Clint was good... we can leave it there.

I will be so ****ing hyped if we get Collins/Capela/16 and one of Hunter/Huerter.

Moving Donovan to full-time PG will help not only him but the offense as a whole as well.

Fair enough. I do remember Capela being better than normal that series. I am willing to compromise and say that doesn’t mean he outplayed Rudy.. but it certainly is something.

Capela/Whiteside would fill the void Rudy leaves by giving us solid rim protection 48 minutes a night. If Capela or Whiteside go down, big Dok is there to fill in (unless he gets shipped out).

I mean it depends on a lot of things. Is Donovan going to fulfill his annual promise to be better defensively? Probably will be marginally better... will at least be motivated to prove something with Rudy gone. Are the parts of KCP, JC, Huerter (or whatever we get) better than Mike, Bogey, etc. Does a new coach provide some switching stuff... Like Sean Sweeney didn't have a major change in personnel on the Mavs and they went from awful to awesome.

I think we go from 11th to maybe 19th or 20th in most situations. Maybe we fall below that. Our number this year is a little wonky because Rudy missed more time than normal. I don't think we are bottom 5 though...

Your point is well taken though.

That other stuff can help for sure....especially the coaching if we have enough pieces. I think the base expectation would be around 25th if you just swapped those players. So if you're talking about "this percent of Gobert", that's what the actual effect is. Maybe you can amount of more of Gobert with better coaching and roster overhaul. But just in a 1:1 comparison between the two players, I'm expecting a top 5 defense versus a bottom 5 defense.

I just don't love "80% of" type comments because no one really knows what that means. I think saying JC is 80% of Don makes sense in some respects, but someone could say the same about Fox and Donovan and I'd also say the same things. There's no real definition of what 80% of a player means. I have no idea what percent of Gobert can be replicated by Capela, but I would expect we drop massively on defense (and a drop on offense too) if everything else stayed the same.

If we trade Rudy to Atlanta, I'd ask for Okongwu. No reason for the Hawks to keep Okongwu around if they are getting Rudy, who's certainly gonna take up to 80% of PT at the center spot. We can develop Okongwu into our own time Lord or even the next Bam. Capela is a negative asset due to his overpriced contract. We shouldn't fall for it, especially when trading the best center in your franchise history.

Yep. This maybe?

Tony Jones follows him. Tony Jones trusts him.
I don’t have an opinion on the veracity of this reporting, but someone had mentioned TJ saying that the Jazz were wanting Atlanta to include Hunter. I went and checked and TJ said that if there was a deal available that he thought the Jazz would be wanting Hunter.

I said that earlier. I love the Okongwu kid.

I think its something that sounds good but the math is kinda hard with humans.

Capela can replace some of what Rudy does... the part that he doesn't replace is meaningful.

I mean they could also trade him to another team or keep him as a backup and figure it out later. If they are doing the deal they need to have some upside instead of becoming Jazz East. I think that's why they want to keep Hunter and Okongwu... so that in theory they could become better than what we were.

By all means ask for it all but this idea that because we are giving up the best player we get everything we want is kinda false. I think Capela is fairly neutral... if it is overpriced and negative at 3/60 then how should we value Rudy at 4/160?

If the Jazz can get Okongwu and #16 then I might be interested. As it stands, Capella is about as league-average as a player gets IMO and feels negative value and I think JC would be traded again in another year but I'm not sure what that yield will be. Those two pieces feel like a lot of ****ing around to find out absolutely 0 with how they fit into the team in ~5 years which is all I care about.
