Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

I wonder if Gobert’s market isn’t as strong as we think or hoped it is.
Too big of a market for defensive centers this summer. Both Mitch Robinson and Capella are available. If you expand that to all centers there‘s Ayton Vuce and Nurkic. Not a great time to trade your center because there were simply way too many options out there. We were victim ourselves when we went for Conley in a small market year for PGs and paid 50% more than we were supposed to.

Myles Turner is also being shopped.

Yeah good luck finding a good offer for Rudy. I'd look to see what we can get for DM/JC/Bogey/Royce at this point

I think Royce, Conley, and Bojan still have value as trade pieces.

Royce is a solid role player on a 2 yr/$18M deal for teams that miss on guys with their MLE.
The veteran PG market is extremely dry and Conley was good in the regular season.
Bogey is still a solid scorer and is on the last year of his deal at $19.5M.

Okay, now how many of those other centers are All Stars and the #1 defensive player in the league the last 4 years, who can raise a team's floor by 7 - 10 wins?

That's what the Jazz are selling. Look at what the Bulls paid to get Vucevic a year ago. Look at what the Kings gave to trade for Sabonis. Rudy should garner a better haul than those deals.

How many of them have 4 yr/$170M left on their contracts? Big men usually start to decline around 30 and Rudy will be 30 this week.

The Pacers received Tyrese Halliburton, Buddy Hield, and Tristian Thompson.
The Magic received Wendell Carter, Otto Porter, and 2 1st round picks

Porter/Thompson were just filler and it doesn't look like Buddy is in the Pacers plans. So the Pacers really just made the deal for Halliburton and salary relief and the Magic received Wendell and 2 1st round picks.

The Vuc and Sabonis deals are also different because they happened in season and the teams trading them were going into full rebuild mode.

One of those picks from the Bulls to the Magic was the #8 pick last summer, which turned out to be Franz Wagner. If the Jazz got a haul like Wendell Carter Jr., Franz Wagner, OPJ and another FRP, that would be fine.

If I'm the Jazz, I want a lottery pick coming back one way or another.

It's also important to note that when the Bulls traded for Vuc they only had to match $28M in salary and he had 3 yr/$72M left on his deal. The Kings had to match $18.5M and Sabonis had 2 yr/$38M left on his deal.

Anyone trading for Rudy has to match $38M (13th highest) and he has 4 yr/$170M left on his deal including $43.8M and $46.6M when he's 33/34. It could easily be the worst contract in the NBA in a couple of seasons.

The Bulls were desperate to convince Lavine to stick around and the Kings are just poorly ran. In both cases though making those moves didn't limit their roster flexibility that much. If you trade for Rudy he has to be the centerpiece of your team for at least the next 4 seasons.
