Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

The guys you're pimping as a championship level team...

They won 48 games with Lonzo and Caruso both missing half the season.

You want to tell me that adding Rudy and those two back while subtracting Vucevic and Williams isn’t going to make them a 55-win team?

So they couldn't do the same next offseason? Rudy is the only player for them?
Nope... never said that. He's likely much better than whatever options they do have though. They have struck out in FA plenty.

I believe your max space would require Lavine walking as well.

Do you think it makes them better than Boston, Miami, Milwaukee, or Brooklyn?

With Lavine at $40M they'd have $100M in cap obligations for 2023 and could get down to $90M by trading Caruso...

Yeah.. they’d be at 70M with 5 guys not including LaVine lol.

Add in LaVine and subtract Caruso you’re at 20M of cap space with 5 total guys lmao.

So they can easily get a $30M slot by trading Caruso instead of being in cap hell for the foreseeable future with the 5th best team in the East.

That’s just not true.

DeRozan - 28.6M
Lonzo - 20.4M
Williams - 9.8M
Caruso - 9.4M

Then you have Ayo who will be due for a raise.

That’s 68.2M not including Ayo. Add in LaVine you’re at 108M with 5 guys not including Ayo. Move Caruso you’re at 98M with 4 guys and have to fill out the rest of the roster including Ayo’s raise lmao.

A 30M cap slot with 4 total guys and you’re losing Ayo in that scenario as well. Sounds like a great idea.

Andy Larsen recapping trade rumors from this week...

I think it's pretty gratuitous that a report will come out one day saying that the Hawks are putting Capela, Collins, Huerter and #16 (or some combination of them) on the table, while another report comes out the next day saying, "The Hawks are wary about a Gobert trade." It all just looks like posturing. I think the Hawks are probably in play for Gobert, but the hold up is Deandre Hunter being involved in the deal.

More or less the same thing happened with Chicago. One day, the Bulls are the presumed frontrunner for Gobert, and the next it sounds as though the Bulls are pulling back a bit and don't want to include Williams in a deal. Again, it just looks like posturing and negotiating back and forth.

Concurrently, the Jazz are contacting other teams to try to complete a 3-team deal that meets more of their requirements. Toronto is also in play, but no one's talking about them.

I think it's more likely than not that a deal gets done and Gobert gets moved. The media pundits are being used to spread rumors, which they're happy to do for attention and clicks.

$7M in capholds... plus #18's salary... plus not signing anyone else to supplement the roster this year if they need a multiyear deal.

You right... punting improvement this year, offloading Caruso, to make a run at some magic FA with a great playoff history is a better plan... nailed it bruh.

That's a personnel issue, not a finances issue. Chicago as a market is close to at par with half of NYC or half of LA. They can swallow a tax team.
His salary makes it a financial issue because when you commit almost $400M to two players it limits what you can do around them.
