Who wants picks who has something good? Something like...

Celtics get KD
Jazz get Brown
Nets get SGA and Bojan
OKC gets Conley and a load of picks

There’s no way that we could get Boston to engage in trade talks with us if we’re just offering picks.

But…..

What if there’s a 3rd, or even 4th team involved? Don’t get me wrong, it’s still not likely, but Utah does have a treasure trove of assets now. What if Brooklyn likes the idea of starting over from the ground up better than the idea of building around Jaylen Brown?? It wouldn’t be the craziest thing we’ve seen.

In all honesty, if you gave me the choice of robbing the Knicks blind and starting our rebuild with a **** ton of draft picks, or sliding Donovan over to PG and bringing Jaylen Brown in to play alongside him, that’s my choice.

Having 12ish first round picks certainly isn’t a bad thing, but it guarantees you nothing. You still have to hope the ping pong balls bounce in your favor, and even if they do, then you gotta hope you pick the right guy.

I understand the logic behind this for sure but Brooklyn has no incentive to start from the ground as they don’t own any of their future picks for awhile. They will look to be competitive.

Is that your argument? And the reason is because we'd be helping the Lakers out too much by taking their two first rounders?

I'd get it if your argument is that we can get more for those three players than we can get from the Lakers (though I've indicated several times that I'm somewhat dubious about that argument). But my point is that it doesn't matter at all whether we are helping the Lakers out. I don't care what their situation is other than that their needs and our desires may align. What matters is that we help ourselves out as much as possible. Failing to deal with them if their offer is the best just because it helps them escape a sticky situation is GM malpractice.

PS, I do agree with you that there's no urgency. We should definitely shop around before doing something like this Laker idea. But it's an idea we have to keep in mind and weigh against what else the market is offering.

I agree that facilitating a trade with the Lakers works great. All in. I think it's the right type of move to collect assets.

I don't think we need to move all 3 pieces for Westbrook. Price is steep because I think players like Clarkson, Beasley, Conley, Bogdonovic, Beverley, and even Vanderbilt all can fetch assets individually. Trading 3 for Westbrook is an overpay because I think we can do the same thing with any two of them so long as contracts line up. I think Bogdonovic and Conley is a plus for the Lakers and gets us to the same place. Or perhaps 2 of them plus Gay for salary purposes to get a little extra for ourselves. So, in short, yeah, I think we can get more for those 3 players.

Suppose we get the same trade you are suggesting but we don't toss in all 3 and we rid ourselves of Gay. Then we flip Beverley for a young player or another draft pick. Then we get 2 unprotected +.

In short, the Laker's are screwed right now with Westbrook. They have been trying to dump him for 6 months with no success. Beggars can't be choosers. No need to put a bow on the gift.

I think we would have to throw a good player (from another team using picks) at Brooklyn so they send KD to Boston.

As or more importantly, it puts pressure on the Knicks.

Let’s just keep out the “protected or two” since that would mean the Heat trading more players and further complicating it. Let’s just keep it three unprotected 1sts, three swaps, Jovic, Strus, and Herro.

I think they offer that without much hesitation IF Boston landed KD.

My only hope there is that it just moves the Knicks.

I just dont know what we would do with Herro and why we would take him and pay him on this timeline. Im over DM but I would just as soon keep him than I would want to take on Herro and pay him, while also getting seemingly a bunch of late firsts.
