The article never said anyone was untouchable. It said the Jazz are impressed with Markkanen and it would take a lot to trade him, and that they would like to extend Clarkson because Ryan Smith likes him a lot. It never said those two were untuouchable.

Ok, read between the lines . When it suggests 2 or more players have impressed certain members of the org and everyone else is available/ you do the math. They are suggesting Marky and JC are untouchable without saying it. It is also suggesting others may be more available than they actually are. I think for example Marky and Sexton, are less likely to moved on those current contracts, than anyone else that has been getting rotation minutes, besides maybe another recent pickup like Beasley who looks worth retaining.
But Ainge is not going to have anyone thinking his pool of players are more or less available, or unavailable imo, so the source is a fool for making it seem like the info is credible.

I don't think Ainge cares how much Atlanta values Collins. He'll make his offer, and they'll either take it or leave it.

Taking a look around the league the past few years, it seems pretty clear that some teams are perfectly fine metaphorically nursing cancerous tumors and other similar type team situations.

Perhaps Atlanta is just such a team. But usually, you don't see how desperate a team is until they complete a trade.

Also, you were a big part of the discussion during the off-season for potential Gobert deals. Nobody wanted Huerter you must be thinking about Hunter. People acted like he was just a toss in.

I definitely wanted Huerter.... I know others did too. Was not surprised when they got a first for him. Was actually surprised they traded him. I think if they could have got a first for JC that he would have been the budget cut instead.

I sat next to some low level hawks front office folks at summer league and while chatting them up I was shocked how forthcoming they were on some things. Kinda talked **** on the AJ Griffin pick and DeAndre Hunter (while they were like 40 feet away from us). I wasn't even asking questions just general conversation. Anyway, the leaks apparently run deep there.

How desperate is Miami to rid themselves of Duncan Robinson? How much do they want to help right the ship this year?

Robinson has fallen off a cliff... Miami in the tax next year and that is before they extend Strus. I think they might be willing to put their 2023 pick on the table unprotected. I know... I know.... we don't want Duncan's contract, but we don't really have cap space next year so taking on some money for Beasley's deal is a route to collect something. I don't believe Duncan is this bad but maybe he had a couple big outlier seasons.

I think he was mostly salty cuz he wasn't playing summer league. He was hurt. Guy had a kind of "we'll see" sarcasm to him. It was just weird for team personnel to be that chatty.

I think you collect assets on both ends of that contract. Hold him for 1.5-2.5 years and we’ll be quasi competitive enough that either he’s a player for us or he gives the appearance of contributing to an okay team and someone values him as a shooting vet with a short-term contract.

I think their pick this year is the best pick potentially on the trade table... and there are no guarantees they get their **** together. If you assume we keep Beasley it makes no sense to not use his team option... because we can't really get to a spot where we have cap space. So its cost neutral the next two years. If he regains his shooting form with a change of scenery then he is similar to the player we have in Beasley. His last year is like 50% guaranteed... so semi-expiring if you want to move him in 2 years.

At a minimum I'd want Duncan and their 2023 unprotected 1st for Beasley... I'd try and be sneaky and swipe Jovic too... no idea how he is viewed by the org.

If we end up dropping a few extra games getting Duncan going it ain't no biggie.

It really has to be unprotected imo. Part of the reason is they owe a pick to someone in 2025. So if it falls in the protections we'd get nothing or a pick in 2027 or later. It is likely one of the worst contracts in the league right now... The hope that his play improves may prove to be wishful thinking.

If they aren't willing to do that I understand. Their schedule eases up a bit and they should be able to make up some ground. Behind the scenes Jimmy could be a monster and they may want to go the other way. Curious what Pat does here.

Next year Atlanta and Miami are number 3 and 5 in amount of committed salary. They are also both underperforming. Both have owners that have shown a serious reluctance to pay the tax. If there is a wonky uneven trade it will come from one of those teams imo.

No THT as he has been passed by NAW on the depth chart. I really wish we would have just cut Beverly or told him to stay home until we find a trade for him. I realize he has been trash but taking on $11M next year for THT looks like a waste of cap space... Lakers have second round picks they could have used to sweeten the deal.

I'd rather have waived Bev or sent him home than take the trade we did. Even if his trade value was zero that is still better than what THT's is and will be.

THT is still a solid project for us. Unfortunately we have a massive minutes crunch right now and NAW has been playing great over the last few weeks.
