Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

I feel like regardless of where you want the jazz to head a trade is needed. This isn't a deadline to stand still at. We need to get better, get worse, get younger, get more balanced and/or a few other things. Just don't pay to get rid of players. If there is no market for Conley or Gay just keep them for now.

Thankffully I don't think we have to worry about that anymore now that Ainge is in charge.

According to Marc Stein, the Clippers have interest in Conley. The Jazz, Hawks and Cavs have recently discussed a trade that would send Collins to the Jazz and Beasley to the Cavs, but the Hawks are reluctant to add any picks to the deal. Stein says the league believes the Jazz will be sellers before the deadline.
Now Cavs are in that deal? At least Collins discussions are in good spirit and Atlanta is not receiving too much interest.. otherwise they would just call this a waste of time and hang up the phone. Obviously our FO is very determined to get this done. Wonder if DA will come down from that 1 FRP to something like swap rights? Already came down from the "multiple FRP" requirement we set when PHX was involved.

Obviously the league thinks we are sellers... but this Collins deal looks more like we are buying. We are driving it, this is the 5th iteration of it and we are giving away 2 players who are worth more draft assets than we get in return. If we were sellers.. we would be taking in offers for those 2 and selling them to the highest bidder. They are maybe our 2 most coveted player assets out of those that we are willing to give away.

According to hoops hype cavs after Beasley in 3 team trade that involves Collins from Atlanta

Clipps interested in Conley

Its us being after Collins. We have discussed that move from September really. This is the 5th iteration of that trade and 2nd time we have involved another team to the mix (last 3-way had Suns in it).

Its likely happening one way or another unless someone suddenly jumps to snatch Collins. I would guess Cavs are in the mix since Atlanta wants someone else than Beasley...

One potential storm cloud on the horizon is if Markkanen decides he wants to sign elsewhere in 2025.
If we decide to rebuild for the next 4+ years... I can see that happening. If we intend to compete before his deal even expires, I find that very unlikely.

Lauri has been in rebuilding teams all of his career. I would guess he wants to get to the playoffs and compete for titles.

It might not take that long for the Lauri/Jazz relationship to fall apart. If things are looking bleak Rockets-style after next season, with no quick turnaround in sight, I'd expect Lauri to tell the team well in advance he won't be resigning. He'll be 27 in May 2024 and his next deal will comprise his prime years.

Conley for Kennard/Wall?

I like Kennard as a potential long-term fit, saves us some money next season, and does Conley a favor if he wants to go to a team he thinks can contend on.

Only if Conley wants to.

I mean if we are ****** like the rockets it’s like in part because Lauri is sucking. I’m not here for the “he gonna leave us” paranoia on Lauri. His breakout is in part because of the opportunity and coaching here… he also has a young family… he very likely wants to stay here long term.

Been talking about this since the beginning of the year. Likely for Reggie Jackson, Robert Covington and maybe some type of pick swap or one of BJ Boston or Mousa Diabate.
I'll just keep Conley if thats the offer. No interest in that trade unless there is a 3rd team taking those guys and something better for us.

And that would be unwise. Jackson is strictly an expiring. Covington can be useful as a player and possibly trade chip. He also plays a position with no depth and is a massive upgrade over Gay next season. The trade makes us worse this year which is a benefit but it also helps clear away part of the massive log jam of minutes at the guard spot so we can hopefully get all of our young guys consistent minutes.

I would bet it would be a three team deal. I would think Luke Kennard would be in the deal... RoCo maybe to a third team, but it also might be like Jackson or Wall to a third team.

I think it would likely also be a result of moving Beasley. Kennard slides into that backup guard role and maybe shows a little more playmaking like he did in Detroit.

I think there are enough pots on the stove that we see a medium-ish deal.

Also, I've been flipping on Hawks games here and there since the Collins rumors all started. I'm super unimpressed. Maybe he is half-assing it... Maybe its some scheme. I'm just not impressed that's all. I think I would be okay if we got some draft capital (swaps or picks) in the deal but my eye test says he's pretty meh.

Eh, I'm going to need them to take Gay in this sort of deal, then I am all over it.

So do we trade future draft assets for a 1.5 year rental like OG Anunoby and hope that he, Markkanen and Kessler click, or do we hope to hit the jackpot in 23 and 24 drafts to appease Lauri, or do we try a little of both?
