I don't think he sees Sexton as a full time PG, but he could be a very effective combo guard off the bench. My best guess is that this is the role he's being prepared for.
 
This is from last year but still applicable. Rui has upside still but I don't know if he can turn it around. A change of scenery could do him a lot of good potentially. He is at least a decent backup so if we aren't giving up much go for it.

I mean that’s what I see, at least in the absence of something better.

Ya that seems like it wouldn't require a ton of coaching. Certainly not the most coaching on the team. I mean that is kinda already what type of player he is and has been. Seems like he has that job down pat from the day he arrived.

I don't know, Tim MacMahon and Tony Jones have both said in the past few days that the Jazz view Sexton as a 6th man and not a future starting point guard, and both of those guys have sources in the organization.

True. Just weird that particular simplistic role would require the most coaching of any role on the entire team. I find that a bit odd. Especially since he seems to have that role perfected already. Probably be in the 6th man of the year running if he stayed healthy and had that role consistently all season and was allowed the green light JC had with quin.
He is also shooting less this season than he ever has in his career by quite a bit. Seems like a 6th man scorer off the bench role would be getting told to shoot more but from what I watch it seems like the opposite. He rarely gets yanked and coached for passing too much.

I don’t really understand what all the flack is all about if it didn’t cost us an arm and a leg (Gay or exception /2nd as you said). I like it as a Collins replacement scenario and we keep Vando and Beasley. Collins stats are total **** and Vando’s stats own both these guys. Still we can use Rui as a Gay replacement with plenty of growth potential.

They’ve got no reason to want Rudy Gay with all the PF’s on that team. Exception or I think NAW would really make the trade roll. Then we rub Gay off on the D’Lo deal and we’re in business.

I'm high on his offense - his ability to put pressure on the basket no matter what coverage he faces is something you absolutely cannot teach, and it's very valuable in the NBA - but being 6'1'' with bad defensive instincts will always mean he's a bench player, IMO. You can't pair him in the backcourt with anyone remotely similar if you hope to contain dynamic opposing guards.

The league has changed pretty quickly in this regard. The ultra quick jitterbug guard is something of a dying breed, at least in starting lineups.

Maybe the coaching is more about defense?

I like MacMahon but he also kept repeating we weren’t going to take back long-term salary in a Donovan deal and we did the exact opposite of that.

Still too rich for my blood... Like would you do Ochai and 2 of the unprotected firsts? I would not... I'd wait out the season and send them or whoever traded for him a lower offer maybe.

It’s funny you say that because that’s the first package I thought of when I read that. I would not do that.
 
I think the price is a lot lower for a Collins vs OG and I don't think the production difference justifies the higher asking price.
