FG%, with the prevalence of the three is basically a useless stat these days. 53% TS. that is also pretty bad. so we can rip him for that.Conley shooting 39% from the field is wild. That is so bad. If Sexton was shooting that bad that would be all people talked about.
I see you point. I just think that you need high IQ players who are capable to make advanced reads, especially at the highest level (playoffs). And having a good PG helps so much. The Jazz is night and day with/without Conley. But he is old and declining and I don't think any of the other players are capable of making the right read or decision when it matters. That's why I disagree with the statement we are deep at PG. SG? Sure. Not as important as you might think in todays nba. See my previous post. NBA is different today than it was back in the day. Not many pure pass first point guards anymore. Still a good thing to have but not super necessary anymore.
I agree with you about the role of a point guard. But I do think you need some sort of leadership on the floor. A guy who can control the tempo of a game, knows when to run what play etc. It can be your small forward (like with Ingles) or your center (as in Jokic). Other than Mike we don’t really have anyone who can do that consistently and my fear is that we fall into chaos if we solely rely on the young guys for that at this point. But if we’re tanking that would be fine.I think people just seem to think that having a "floor general" point guard who is pass first is super critical. And it was a long time ago. Todays game has quite a few score first point guards starting for very very good teams. Ja morant is more of a scorer than a passer (good passer too though), Kyrie irving is more of a scorer than a passer (he averages 5.1 assists per game). Jamaal Murray averages 5.7 assists per game and is score first. Fox averages 6.1 assists per game is a score first guy. Clippers have terrance mann listed as starting point guard and averaging 2.1 assists though Im guessing that is due to injury. Reggie jackson is probably their normal point guard and averages 3.6 points per game.
I think sexton could average 5-7 assists per game if he got the minutes. NAW and THT as well.
Point being that many teams are successful without a true floor general pass first point guard.
I miss Ingles. He would be so good with LauriI agree with you about the role of a point guard. But I do think you need some sort of leadership on the floor. Sounds like someone who is super objective and really lets the data speak to him.I would say overall the Jazz offense helps Sexton more than Sexton helps the Jazz offense.
Hold my calls and clear my lines... I'll be back.
And with Kessler in the pick & roll. And I do miss his ultra slow motion layups after faking the hand off.I miss Ingles. He would be so good with Lauri

Nothing earth shattering this far…I'll be in the bathroom with my earphones for roughly the next 45 minutes.
I'm interested in seeing Lauri or Kessler production with Conley vs Sexton as ballhandlers running Pick N Roll. Or TO's percentage or hockey assists. Anyway, regardless of stats, I think the Jazz plays much better with the ball in Conley's hands (or him off ball). Basic stats as plus minus or offensive ratings could be tricky as it doesn't take into account the quality of opposing players (bench vs starters) or teammates. I guess we can disagree on whether the Jazz have enough high level playmakers/PGs/ballhandlersBut they arent night and day without conley. Check the numbers

It's not a black/white thing. This isnt the 90's. There really arent any "true" PG's left. You have to be a scoring threat, but you have to be a scoring threat who can equally see passing opportunities and scoring opportunities, and knows when to be on/off the ball w/ quick decisions, basically a 2nd coach on the floor. That is the essence of what being a PG is. Sexton is closer to Carmelo Anthony than he is Mike Conley.
And yes Fish, when you are a team with a playmaking superstar (or multiple) the need for a PG is less so. But guess what? The Clippers are in the trade rumors looking for *GASP*..... a PG. And until the Jazz land a self-creation super-star, they will desperately need some kind of higher level playmaking PG who can both score himself and set-up the team.
Nothing earth shattering this far…
I thought Windhorst taking the under on the total picks acquired (1.5) was insightful. Tells me a trade like the one I suggested for Vanderbilt/Bones is more realistic.Nothing earth shattering this far…
Mention the Cavs as trade partners we have history with and could link up. Mentioned the Clips but its a lot of the same type of stuff we have heard. McMahon gave Windy and over/under of 1.5 first round picks acquired and Windy took the under. It sounds very much like we are taking all calls and gladly discussing many things but not convinced some blockbuster or tear down happens. It was entertaining but nothing that really got me thinking tbh. That's disappointing. I've been busy at work and haven't had a chance to listen yet.
It was total firsts. And of course it tells you that.I thought Windhorst taking the under on the total picks acquired (1.5) was insightful. Tells me a trade like the one I suggested for Vanderbilt/Bones is more realistic.
Houston 2nd rounder counts as .5 first round picks then.I think Vando to Indiana for the Boston pick they own or the Houston second rounder is the most likely destination. Vando as a non shooter (or just okayish shooter) works well for them, is young, its a cheap flier... they take him right into their cap space and it gives us a little more room to add salary in a trade if it helps us get something done.
