Trading Down in the Draft

So Miami is in trouble... They are in luxury tax hell this year if Wade and Deng opt in as they are repeaters. They also have an interesting conundrum next year if they have to extend Wade. they will want max space, but for CBA reasons will need to conserve some cap space to resign Whiteside.

If they were able to dump McBob for unguaranteed contracts they could save around $20 M dollars this year (per nate duncan on his podcast yesterday) they'd also open up $6 M or so in space next year. McBob is a useful player and brings a lot of what our front court lacks.

I think we could add our 3rd big and move up two spots which increases our chances of catching the player who falls out of that top 9 (if one does)... i think they'd have to do it with the amount of money they can save and the options it opens up for them next year. Both teams would probably want to wait to see how the draft falls into place, but I think that is our most logical way to move up... I'd only do it if one of the consensus top 9 guys was available. It would likely be SJ imo.

#10 + McRoberts for #12 is easily something I would do. McRoberts can stretch the floor as a power forward and we move up two spots in the draft. It's a win-win.

Even if you have to give up a future 2nd, this is a deal worth making.

Without a doubt, get it done DL. It makes sense for the Heat as well, getting rid of salary while only moving down two spots plus possibly getting a second rounder.

It's not top 8, but it guarantees that the Jazz get one of Towns, Russell, Okafor, Mudiay, Winslow, Hezonja, Porzingis, Johnson, Turner or Kaminsky. Plus it positions Utah to more easily move up inside the top 10 after the fact if their target gets picked ahead of them.

Probably the best idea floated so far and it's a good/fair deal for both teams. Make this trade for #10 and who knows, maybe a future first then gets them from #10 to #7 or #8 if they want to trade up again.

McRoberts salary doesn't seem to be too out of line. Here is his salary over the next three seasons, the last year being a players option year. About a million more per year more than Trevor Booker. I am curious what is going to happen to Trevor. He is a team option for next year and is a prime candidate for a trade scenario. I sure like him on our squad. I love his attitude and he seems to really like it here. He is a fan favorite. I would like him to be around next year unless he is key in a package to do something special in a trade.

Josh McRoberts: $5,543,725 $5,782,450 $6,021,175

I didn't realize that McRoberts was such a good passer. Seems to fit in well with what Snyder likes to do.

McBob would be a great player to have, I'd prefer his game over Booker's game for our team, but he is so damn injury prone (right? Or am I imagining this/overstating it?) that I would have to pass.

Correct, McRoberts has had injuries every year of his career I think. He has been in the league for 7 years and has never played a complete season and has only played more than 50 games once. This last year he tore his meniscus in his knee.

Seems like a down to earth type of guy though. I like his personality. Seems like a good team type of guy that would be a nice fit in Utah.

He played 67 games in 12-13.

My bad... I thought he missed more games than what the career stats show.

Didn't he karate chop someone in the playoffs a few years ago when he was with Charlotte?

I admire that quality in friends and sports players.

Imagine if this happened and Johnson was there at 10. My face would melt off and the Jazz would be playoff bound.
