Training Camp Notes

Millsap said Monday that he would "absolutely" like to re-sign with Utah. It raises, however, the question of how the Jazz can commit to both Millsap and Favors. Salt Lake Tribune

From the last night scrimmage report

The three players that I heard were most impressive were Jamaal Tinsley, Gordon Hayward and Enes Kanter.

Numerous people talked about Kanter taking and hitting the jump shot. He was better finishing at the rim and he is moving far better. Kanter’s offense wasn’t only the up and under Kanter, he showed more jumpers and went to the middle on occasion as well.

Hayward was the best player on the floor according to some accounts, but still played in the Hayward style of being inside the game.

I hope Kanter's confidence will continue on into the season.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to nightmare3983 again.

I will read them when i get home.

In the first night of scrimmaging Kanter hit some outside jump shots, showed a move other than the up and under and impressed numerous of his teammates. One player pointed out he even passed the ball out of the post on a few occasions.

Kanter seems like he'd be a great guy to have on the team just so he could mentor Big Al and teach him a little bit about passing the ball out of the post.

I know it was just a joke, but Kanter had the worst assist rate of the entire NBA according to Hollinger (0.3/36 minutes = 1 assist every 3 games playing 36 minutes/game). Frightening!

Favors can improve in that area as well. He averaged 1.1 assists per 36 minutes last year.

Not even a slight bit surprising. Anyone who watched Kanter play last season totally saw this.

Still have nightmares of him getting packed in the post after he jumps an inch off the floor.

Here's an interesting tidbit from Jody Genessy ‏@DJJazzyJody:

Jazz are walking through offense to begin practice. Interesting part is the group on the floor: Mo, Foye, Hayward, Millsap and Big Al.

Probably means nothing, but I just don't trust Corbin with the youth; he's been relatively cowardly with his subs and loves them veterans.

If Corbin sacrifices Kanter, Favors and Burks for the vets I am going to be pissed.

It does. He's walking through an offence with 3 guys who know the offence and two guys who don't, one of whom is going to be starting at PG and another who might play at backup PG.

Also, I see that Hayward is a veteran now. Kids grow up so fast these days.

probably doesn't mean much. "walking through the offense" just means slowing down every motion and cut for demonstration purposes. if you're going to do that, you're probably doing it for the benefit of younger guys so they can visualize the "right" thing to do on every play -- so it makes sense that you'd use your more savvy guys to demonstrate.

doesn't necessarily mean those 5 guys are going to start or play 40 minutes... they're just the 5 guys he can trust to accurately depict the structure of the offense.

Tyrone Corbin was impressed by Tinsley “Oh man he had a great afternoon yesterday, he really showed once we got into contact how he sees things especially in a crowd he is a such a great passer he is a true point guard, he had a good afternoon yesterday.”

Word Corbin, word.
