What's new

Trey Burke is still garbage.

I don't need to prove myself, I still think he is the CJ Miles of Point Guards, where he has great games against mediocre talent or the occasional game where he scores 20+... In reality he isn't a point guard and he isn't the future of the franchise, I mean really... do you think he will come back after this season? The future PG is Dante, and backup is Neto.

I understand you guys saying "wow no one can say anything about how Trey is playing"... "he really has turned it around"... maaaaaaan, you guys are idiots. Really, if he was so amazing you thing that coach would have him in the starting lineup with the rest of them. Truth is that he scores a bunch, but is terrible at defense (on starting point guards, no the scrubs he plays off the bench) and he is a score first, pass second PG. Why would you have a score first PG in the starting lineup with Favors, Hood, and Hayward??

This team doesn't need Trey, unless it's off the bench to score at will. He won't be a starting PG for this franchise ever again, and he won't accept a backup position with us if he has the chance to re-sign with us in the off season.

As far as i'm concerned, he is dead to me.

As long as he's as good as he has been this season, it's a good idea to bring him back. I don't think he's the problem at this juncture. Losing that 10 lbs seems like a pivotal adjustment.

His #'s so far in December do scare me a bit, Trigger Trey is back - 14.8 FGA's to 14.8 PPG and 59 FGA's to 1 FTA!!! It's interesting he's still got that kinda leeway, he's probably doing what he's told.

His trade value has increased this year for sure, which certainly brings some new interesting scenarios to the table, but at 3.3 mil next year, I kinda want to see what he can do, If he can build on this season his trade value could possibly peak by next years deadline and they could possibly rip some team desperate for a Guard off (if their a contender and injured).

By then it will be obvious if he's worth keeping around or if an upgrade is necessary. If it involves mid-40's shooting from the field and 3, I'm not sure it's all that wise to find a replacement. I want to see the bench get fixed, so the Jazz can start their best unit. Which IMO right now would be Trey-Alec-Gordon-Favors.

Neto is an obvious 3rd string PG, he's young and proven to be servicable. No quams with him, or keeping him around at this point.

What would the Jazz want in return for Trey anyways? a backup C? a backup wing? A PG swap? I'm not sure that kinda move is gonna happen with the Jazz playing .500 ball and in the playoffs, the risk/reward is off.

Trey certainly has been inconsistent. But the OP is right. He is a shoot-first guy, who's at his best when he dominates the ball. The trouble is he's not good enough at that and when he's not hitting, he kills team chemistry.

Well, hes proven himself to be an NBA player. He'll make a fine back up to whoever has him next year.

Sounds like Burke ****ed Kyoto's momma.

And that thang ain't no milimetre-Peter either. Sorry to hear, Kyotz.

Can't wait to see y'alls brains explode when Black Jesus re-signs with Utah. Can't expect better numbers from a backup-PG, mouth-breathers.

Everyone with a brain knows that Burke > Neto. But it ain't about the short term-- it makes a ton of sense to build a role for Burke off the bench that he flourishes in. That way, when Exum comes back, it's just a seamless plug and chug.

Burke will continue to come off the bench for the remainder of the season, and that'll be his role with the team for the foreseeable future-- unless his play improves so much that he starts garnering trade interest.

My problem with the whole "he's not a real PG thing" is who is he expected to pass to? When you are playing with Milsap, Whitney, Ingles, Booker(who can't make a lay up to save his soul this season), Lyles(who at the time was missing everything, and Johnson for the majority of where are the assist coming from? The ball movement been there if you are watching the games. When Trey logged major mins with the more capable scorers and he's handling the ball you see his assist numbers take a bump.

I agree with the current make up of the team Burke would have for more value on another franchise, but he clearly isn't garbage.

I can see Burke reverting back to his garbage days, but he's been much improved and he deserves credit for that. He isn't an ideal player, but in the role he's been in this year, he's performed and has been a good piece. Hopefully that continues.

Fewer marching orders and fewer minutes have been good things. I don't expect his performance thus far to be something that can scale up to a bigger role with more minutes. But, even then, I agree he deserves a lot of credit. Good for him.

Agreed. I have been fine with Trey Burke so far this year and if he is still under his rookie deal next year a around 3 million then we might as well keep him for a while.

If he is a PG, he is supposed to pass to everybody, he is supposed to be able to get the ball to folks where they can score. That is what a PG does.

Now, I will admit those guys are not great scorers and Trey is doing what he is told to do, shoot and score as the second unit needs help with that. But is he really the guy you want doing that? Couldn't we get someone who can score decently on a second unit and play some D?

You can make a case that he isn't putting guy in the best position, but he is passing them the ball when it's the right play. To me that's what you expect for your PG.

When I said Trey is not good enough to be the guy dominating the ball, that's exactly the point. He can score but to be a ball dominating guy you have to provide consistent All-Star level play, like a Jamal Crawford in his prime, and Trey has a long way to go for that. If he could turn on his ball dominant ways at the right times when a basket is needed, and turn it off when his shot is not falling, and learn how to set up other guys and get them the ball where they can score, which is what a PG is supposed to do, then we would have a solid offensive player. Of course, there's the defensive side too, and he's always going to have trouble with bigger guards, but at the same time, we need to see effort and steals from him, which is what Neto gives you on the defensive end. Actually, if you could combine Trey's ability to score with the rest of Neto's play, we'd have a solid PG.

It's pretty obvious that it never occurred to the OP when he wrote his headline that he's talking about an actual person. And then he has the nerve to begin his post by saying that he doesn't need to prove himself. Pathetic.
