What's new

Trey Burke. What more do you need?

Except Rondo plays chess while Burke plays checkers, if we're comparing.. but carry on, I'm on a different build mode.

The purpose of this thread was to get into detail. Saying one player plays chess while another plays checkers isn't much detail. Especially comparing a 9 year vet to a 2nd year player.

Are you suggesting a Kanter for Bullock trade... ick. What else would we get?

I think it's probably a 3-team trade. I spent a little time putting something together, but ran out of time...

But, seriously, don't hold your breath for major value for Kanter. Value has been dropping steadily for two years.

Not hating, just recognizing. Have you factored in to your evaluation how important those defects are?

Yes I have. He doesn't have to be this huge player or elite athlete to be a top 10 PG.

He is not "getting to the rim" or at least I have not seen in watching about 50% of the games. I think "getting to the rim" means dunking it which he cannot do based on the issues above. That said, he has added that high banker layup near the rim which is very nice.

How is dunking and getting to the rim one and the same? How often are you seeing Curry, or Paul dunking the ball?

There is improvement, but not sure how much. I cannot say I have noticed better D, still seems to get burned letting guys into the paint. Harp mentioned that last night or the game before.

The problem is with the PNR defensive scheme that's in place. Go back and see how the Clippers defend the PNR and look how you guys defend it. The bigs in Quin system don't put any pressure on the ball handler. The same thing happens to Exum when he's in the PNR defender.

What do we want? Stay in front of your guy and keep him out the lane. Fewer shots, more makes, more assists.

As I just mentioned staying in front of a guy in PNR situations are a team effort. He's not getting burned in iso situations. Fewer shots is far too simplistic. What if the defense sag and dare him to shoot all game? The same with assist guys have to take and make their open shots. Not only that Quin system has the ball moving so the assist should be more spread out the entire roster. Of course he has to make more shoots, but as we say in preseason that could change for Burke the very next game. Shooting of all the stats are ones that fluctuate the most.

Jazz fans would love this. What would it take?

Maybe we make a trade for Stauskas and go after Millsap in FA.

Exum
Stauskas
Hayward
Millsap
Favors

I think we could definitely get stauskas. Millsap may end up having too many suitors though.

Not sure they'll want to part with Stauskas.... isn't he gonna be better than McLemore? I'm sure they'd like to trade one of those guys, though.

All I read last year was he couldn't drive to the basket. This year he's been way more successful so far getting to the rim.

Yeah maybe he's been successful at getting to the rim, but he hasn't been successful in finishing many of those opportunities.

There were questions about his ability to defend. This season he's been a quality defender.

If by quality you mean decent, I’ll give you that.

Last season posters said he forced too many bad shots. Now he shooting within the flow of the offense.

Are you kidding me? He’s taken plenty of terrible shots and that is clearly reflected in his FG %. If you think his shot selection has been good, then we have bigger problems on our hands. The dude has more FGA than points made so far.

Although it not reflexed in his assist total Trey has move the ball well showing great vision. Can't get an assist if the ball doesn't go through the nets.

True, we have missed open shots.

The only area he has actually regressed in is his shooting accuracy. Of course this is only 4 games into the season.

Like I said above, his poor shooting is more a result of poor shot selection, both driving layups and jumpers.

There's is a lot of negativity with Burke on this board. While no player is above criticism. It appears many here are just hating because Trey is an undersized PG and isn't a physical specimen athletically.
So my question is what is it that Trey needs to do to impress some of you. It seems to me he has taken some huge leaps in just season two. Just saying he sucks or start Exum isn't really saying much. Farther more it's ignoring the areas of concern last year that appear to be strengths for Burke this season.

For me it has more to do with opportunity cost. Unless Trey dramatically (and I mean dramatically) improves his speed and agility, there is no way I can be excited about him because on our bench we have a 19 year old kid who has the potential to become the best point guard in the league.
Maybe you’re content with just winning games, making the playoffs, but never seriously competing for a championship. With Burke as one of the main players, that won’t happen because he lacks those physical qualities. I want a championship, and for me, Burke is not the path to get there, so I’d rather have more minutes go towards developing someone who can win us a championship.

I think Trey's defense and slashing and decision making are much better. I like his improvements.
Give him time. It's only 4 games with his bad shot.
Hayward and has much longer shooting slumps.

I think we may have to overpay a bit but I think he's gettable. We are sitting on too many assets that we will eventually have to spend. I wouldn't mind spending some of them to get Stauskas. I also think that a trade involving him that seemed like an overpay in the present might turn out to be a bargain in the long run. There are too few guys with his shooting ability.

I am amazed at the number of people on this board that hate on. Rondo. Dude is a mastermind. To be putting up the numbers he is with that team is criminal to opposing teams. He's just a floor genius.

I don't understand why everyone is in such a hurry to sign a bunch of old, soon to be - washed up hacks.

Rondo's passing would make this team much better offensively, but I still would rather develop Exum. I think he could be ready to start as early as next season if things go to plan.

No need to get Stauskas. We have Hood who can be our 3pt specialist and has shown an interest and effort on being a defensive stopper. Has some BBIQ as well. I know I am being a little bit homer about the guy but at least I am not at Fish level.
