What's new

Trey Lyles concerns

Sure he is scoring many on putbacks. Agains summer league play. I am not so sure this stats will translate well into NBA play.

Is he a chucker? I see many mid range jumpers. He tries to pump fake jump into poor defenders. Again will not translate into NBA.

Why does he take so deep outside threes? He thinks he is the Carmelo Anthony? Again it is pump fake and chuck.

My worries.

From what I've heard the Jazz coaches and FO see him as a playmaking stretch 4. That could account for his the high % of his FGAs being Js and 3s.

Curious as why you don't think it will translate? I see that play being called 2-3 times a game(defender biting on fake and shooter running into him). I honestly hate the rule but it's gotten him to the line on multiple occasions.

He's already pretty savvy in selling those fakes.. I mean that's pretty advance. Also in our team only Hayward and Burks are really elite at doing that. Favors for all his talent is not even doing that consistently ATM.

I think as long as we continue to micro-analyze every one of his games, he should turn out fine.

I like what I saw against the Lakers. He is a perfect fit for Snyders system here. I can see him being veeeery valuable coming off the bench.

He just needs to get stronger, but he's not nearly as skinny as Hayward was when he got in the league. So a couple years of an NBA weight lifting program, and some trips to P3 should fix that. In fact, with both him and Hayward both being from Indianapolis, I'd love for him to become Haywards shadow the next couple of summers and workout with him.

Curious if you actually saw him play or just clips of highlights?

Is he a chucker? No, he's a playmaker and facilitator. Could stand to be more assertive like his last game.

Will his pump fake translate? Yes, he's going to be taking 4s out to the perimeter where he is faster and they are not comfortable. Initially he'll get some bites, then defenders will learn. If his shot proves to be consistent and a threat, the he will continue to get those on defenders who lay off too much, otherwise he'll drive right by them.

Shot selection? He's 19. That will get better with coaching.

Not to mention he might shine as a play maker with some real talent next to him rather then super-summer league players.

Favors does not have jump shot. Why could he sell?

NBA is players much better than summer league. I remember when James Donnelly went off for like 30 points every game and people were compare to Kobe. He never even makes NBA team.

He shot like 20% from college 3. 1 game does not make a trend.

I was a bit worried about his athleticism, but he kind of surprised me last game. He got up on a couple of put backs, made some good defensive movements, and showed more body control.

I don't see him being a lights out 3 point shooter, but a serviceable one. I do think he will develop a go to mid range game.

Dear Mrs. JAZZGASM,

Kindly log out of your husband's account and keep your marital issues between the two of you.

Sincerely,

JFC

Sorry, but every year around this time Mr. Jazzgasm has premature edraftulation ever since Burke was drafted. Hopefully this season is exciting enough for multiple jazzgasms.

I wish we can find some one else. I can't drink the Jazz DNAid yet. Its not right. I can only see one game where he shows more than dribble and balance talents. YOU CANT FOOL ME DL!! Maybe he can show me he shoots more than 30% other than that he is Kyle anderson? Maybe not so slow but sucks and everything he sucks at really. Its true.

"If his shot proves to be consistent..."

"If" implies a degree of uncertainty or doubt. I believe he could improve his shot, I also know that is possible he never will. I know that his current shot is flat and has mechanical problems. I also know we have good coaches. Time will tell. He's still very smooth with the ball and quicker than other 4's, and he is still going to take them out to the perimeter. He spends more time out there than he does inside, kind of hope that changes soon actually. Opposing 4's will either dare him to shoot, or challenge him. If they come out on him, he's going to be faster.
