Hey guys. So I was thinking about new car and was looking into larger SUV options so I would have an option to tow a fishing boat and maybe camper in the future. But right now they have such an amazing deals on Ford F-150's that I am seriously thinking about getting one. What is your experience, tips and advice for first time truck owner? Is it a difficult transition when it comes to driving compared to SUV? Any other cons and pros? Just share your experience please:)
 
I drive a Silverado with a 6.5’ bed and the full back row. We also have a Yukon XL (Suburban). There’s not much difference between the two, driving wise. The truck has a little better turning radius. While the Yukon XL is 4 wheel drive, there is no 4 LOW, only 4 HIGH.

I love pickups and the way they drive.

What size engine in the Ford? They seem to have a ton of leg room for passengers, which is really nice. Do not buy a Dodge. They're awful.
 
I drive a 4-door, 5.5' bed, 4x4 2012 F-150 with the 5.0, it's been a great truck and I love driving it. I get around 18 MPG and can tow my 7500lb trailer. Tons of room in the back seat, I'm 6'4" and my knees have plenty of clearance in the back with the front seats all the way back. It sounds great, is surprisingly fast, and just a ton of fun to drive.

Im in the market to buy a truck too. Tough to decide. I like them all.

I test drove the F150 with the 3.0 power stroke and its pretty cool. Pretty quick. But Im going with heavy duty though.

I get that Dodge is lower on the scale of reliability supposedly, but have you seen the interiors on the new ones. Ford and Chevy dont even compare. The Dodge interiors are bad ***.

Ford's interiors use too much plastic and Chevy is just boring and plane.

I like the way all 3 look on the outside though. Except I dont think I like the new Chevy and GMC body styles. They made that front grill weird and too big.

Their interiors seem to fall apart at a very rapid pace, in my experience.

You gonna give him a hard time about fuel efficiency and tires and all that? Or is that just for guys that drive a pretty reasonable 4-door sedan that happens to be decently quick and has AWD?

I am looking into Ford because they have great deals now and since I have been driving Fords for pretty much last 15 years now....I was thinking Explorer first but price difference is such that it just makes no sense now.... and apparently F-150 with 2.7 Eco boost engine gets better fuel economy than Explorer anyway. Plus you still can tow 7500lbs so seems like no brainer for me.

What are the deals? Seems like Chevy and Dodge always have the better deals. They always have rebates and discounts while Ford often does not.

Remember, I am in Canada, it's called employee pricing so depending on the model it may be 5-10k off. I am actually looking to lease it and it comes to 139 canadian $ bi-weekly for 3 years. So about 100 USD bi-weekly to lease a new truck for 3 years.

Do you need a truck for some reason? I know why RfR and BigB do but unless you do, I see spending money on a truck like that as a waste of money unless there are practical reasons for buying it. Or you have the money to piss away which is none of my business.

FWIW, I’d like one too. Feel like it would add about 3/4 of an inch to my ****.

How much down? Putting money down on a lease is foolish.

Well I like to go fishing and camping and was planning to buy a boat soon as well. So my new car needed to have decent towing capability... and as I mentioned I was looking into Explorer or other similar car and not really thinking about the truck until they discussed all the reasons to go with it at dealership. I am still researching cons and pros and will test drive one on Saturday to see how it feels. Maybe I will hate it lol.
