Imagine them both passing away on election day. It would sent it all into chaos. Pence would become president and they would likely have to push out the election a good 6 months for each party to get their bearing.
The part I wondered was could they do this at all, or would the election proceed with whoever was on the ballot? Would we end up with a third-party candidate because they got the 3rd most votes and therefore won the election automatically because the others died? Could be crazy.

If it happened on election day, they'd still count the votes that were in. If Trump was winning, Pence would still take command. If Biden were winning, Harris would be inaugurated.
New VP's would have to be chosen, but yeah, that would be pretty crazy. Probably just another reason we shouldn't be electing politicians late into their 70's for high-profile positions.

How does this affect the election? In my opinion, not much really.
It deprives Trump of some of his desired in-person rallies, but possible he'll try to address his voters over videoconference if he's feeling well enough. I don't think voters are suddenly going to feel sorry for him and vote for him now even if he does a 180 and tells everyone how serious Covid is and to wear masks. Simply too much history there for that to be effective.
The second debate is in peril - it will either have to be pushed to a later date or cancelled (highly doubt they'd do it over VC). I would lean towards the latter as I don't know that either candidate would prefer a debate right before the election (Trump could if he's still in a tough position and needs a hail mary).
Strategically, nothing about this is good for Trump. It puts the focus squarely on Covid and that's the exact wrong issue his campaign needs anyone to focus on. With him effectively sidelined for half of the end of this campaign, they're simply out of time for any game-changers that puts Biden in true crosshairs. Candidly, outside of Biden suffering a heart attack/stroke/on deathbed/dead, nothing will overshadow this.

- Rays of sun align and reflect off of skyscrapers just right causing third degree burns on 100% of the body
- Be decapitated one milisecond prior to hitting the pavement by the bumper of a Honda Civic
- Hit the ground and turn into a bloody pulp
Was it Covid's fault? Wouldn't have jumped out the window if I didn't get the positive test, right?

Underlying conditions from obesity may but Trump has none so quit fear mongering. Remember you and most here stupidly said 75,000,000 at minimum will get sick and millions will die.

The differences in these two statements were pointed out by One Brow when the subject was raised before, at the time the CDC’s 6% statement was first being reported. I suspect One Brow’s citation is a more accurate interpretation. Either way, it was misinformation at the time to say the CDC had revised downward the number of deaths from the coronavirus pandemic.
