Ty Corbin, Coach of the Year?

I know it's very early, but if we make the playoffs, he has to be a strong contender. Even the most optimistic Jazz fan never guess we'd be sitting at 8-4, 12 games in coming off a 10 point win over the Denver Nuggets. We've played 1/5 of the regular season, and we're in a tie with San Antonio, and the Clippers for 2nd place in the West. Ty Corbin has to take a huge amount of credit in their success, and a lot of fans (myself included) are eating some serious crow right now.

Man if Ty won it his first full year that would be cool but also show that the award itself is a joke.

Another thing that Ty is doing incredibly well is handling the PT for the rotations. It may not too much damage now, but as this season goes on if we're not having any players average major minutes we could be very strong down the stretch.

If we finish around the 3-5 seed, he'll be a good candidate. Doug Collins is also doing a tremendous job with the 76ers.

What I like more than anything about this team is they are playing with competitive fire for 48 minutes; more if needed. Non-stop hustle! Guarantee you that's coming from coach Ty; he's got their attention and to a man they are responding. He's got them playing together as a team, and everyone is contributing. If that ain't COY material, not sure what is...

He is, but I thought the media had pretty good expectations for the 76ers this year? Everyone had us towards the bottom.

Exactly. Sixers were a guaranteed playoff team. I saw estimates for us from 25th-28th. If we get the 5th seed, thats a HUGE surprise.

He and Doug Collins are really the only people who come to mind at this point, so yeah, it's a possibility. I don't think he gets it unless we start beating the Bostons, L.A.s, and Miamis of the league though; that's what would put him over the hump.

Sorry Ty, Philly, Chicago, Miami, LA Clippers, Indy, or Brown in LaLakers. Maybe Adleman if Minny can learn to finish the games it plays close.

Indy's coach.

Agreed. If Indys a top 4 seed this year, they'll definitely take the cake. I still think it will be more impressive if the Jazz make the playoffs though, seeing as Corbin went 8-20 last year, and we were essentially cemented by the critics as a lottery team.

Winning COY is all about win improvements are going way past expectations so that takes out Chicago, Miami, LAC, and LAL. Indy makes sense though if they continue to play well.

Corbin won't be > than Sloan until he has gone to the finals twice, and the western conference several times with different teams. However, that doesn't mean that Corbin can't.

As I look at it now, Sloan was really past his prime. His defense was from 15 years ago when the league had loads of dominant shot blocking centers, guards could be bodied up outside the 3 point line, and speaking of threes, only a few players could shoot the three at regularity. These are things he never changed his attitude on, and the league has changed, with athletic smaller centers, no touching the guards, and about two thirds of the players can at least hit a 3 in a pinch. Corbin has made these adjustments, he's forcing baseline instead of trying to force to his center, he's switching much better to defend the outside shot, and he said that he will use his 2's and 3's more than before (though I haven't seen this yet, but Ty also said he was not done introducing the offence yet)

If the Jazz make the playoffs, I can easily see Ty contending for coach of the year, though comparing him to last year isn't fair at all.

Corbin>sloan

I'm leaning towards thinking this is sarcasm. If not, yes, right now Ty>70+year old Sloan. The man was tired. I can't blame him.

I'm very happy with Ty right now. The way he intereacts with players during the game. The emotion and energy he has on the side lines. The attitude of his team. Hes kicking some serious *** right now and it's fun to see.

Now give me a 3-4 game losing streak and we'll see how I feel then.
