Ty - starting to take us down.....

I don't mind trying to use depth as an advantage by playing multiple players but the players involved have to know this and understand their role and the coaches have to be clear in explaining it to them and make sure they know even if the shot is not falling they have confidence in them but they have to contribute in other ways besides shooting.

One of the things that always impressed me about a Phil Jackson team, probably also Pops, was his ability to instill whatever into role players to where they shot confidently and well. I suspect it is a confidence thing and certain coaches have a way of giving that to their players, most critically their role players. Unfortunately, Ty seems to have learned everything he knows about this topic from Ol' Jer. And it is working about as well. Other than Hornacek, did we ever have a good and dependable wing shooter under Jer? So to me, you are likely very wrong about this. Confidence is a very critical part of shooting well, and coaches have the power to destroy or build that confidence.

In any sport, players need confidence to succeed. Doesn't mean a coach can't chew a player for playing badly, but you will very rarely see a team do well if they have no confidence.

Sportsmen are no different to anyone else. If I'm doing my day job and I have my bosses' backing and feel like he understands me and wants me to succeed (and yes pushes me to do so, perhaps by saying things I might not like to hear) then I'm more likely to be a good employee than if my boss belittles me and shows me he doesn't trust me.
