US Moving Embassy

The President is recognizing, formally, Jerusalem as Israel's capitol and will eventually move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Why? What do we gain from this?

All I see is large negatives. Multiple ME nations have already come out against this harsly. It will drive a wedge between the US and out ME partners like Jordan, Turkey and Egypt.

Furthermore it will throw a kink in the growing Israel/Saudi partnership as an effort to counter Iran.

It is exactly the wrong move at the wrong time. Right when we should be encouraging the Israel/Saudi friendship and the Saudi efforts to form a multi nation alliance (Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, Bahrain, Sudan and UAE) we piss them off.

Anyone have any insight I am not seeing? Thoughts?

un says israel has no right to jeruzalem, and unesco calls the holy sites their by their Arabic names!
