What's new

Utah Highway Patrolman

I'm not of the opinion that if you run from teh cops that they are justified in kicking your ***, but if they need to kick your *** to stop you from threatening innocent lives then I am not only OK with it, I expect it.

well um perhaps people should wait for more information before calling her a "maniac" as punching someone's window out before immediately beating the **** out of them isn't exactly considered polite behavior in its own right

I don't want my police officers to be polite when trying to stop a criminal. I want them to be tough as **** and do what's necessary.

C'mon guys! Don't you know that this poor old lady is not responsible for her actions? Jeez, she was probably drunk and therefore unable to think clearly when the mean old cops ruffed her up. Besides, don't you know that people are not responsible for their own actions now days? Like the lady that was texting while walking through the mall when she fell into the fountain. Clearly that was somebodies evil plan to build a fountain right where she was going to walk, therefore creating an amusing youtube video.

(okay, I better mention that this post was all sarcastic before some moran gives me more negative reps)

you guys are defending an armed police officer flanked by several other armed police officers breaking the window of an old woman's car and punching her five times in the face

Its hard to believe there are people like you.

Noooo, she is just a cute little grandma who was driving 23 mph in a 50 mph zone until the evil horrible pigs jumped her unawares in her car and beat the crap out of her because they were bored.

haha nobody is making these arguments

the videos show multiple police cars forcing another car to stop, four officers surrounding the vehicle with one deploying a taser and another breaking a window so he could punch the driver. the punching officer says it was because she was driving erratically. the woman says she doesn't remember anything other than glass breaking and a fist punching her in the face. it doesn't appear to be clear from the videos that she was trying to escape after her car was stopped. this is the information we have. make whatever deductions you feel comfortable with, but given that mr. punchy made no attempt to shout her down or restrain her after breaking her window, and given that another officer shot her with a taser, all for the ambiguous charge of "driving erratically", i'm not going to jump on the "LOCK THAT **** UP" bandwagon just yet. the investigation is justified because a civilan had their car rammed off the road, a window busted open, and a taser deployed on them while they were beating beaten by another officer. i'm not fond of the "old lady" angle either and i regret bringing it up in my first post but c'mon. regardless if these measures were necessary, they were extreme, and require justification.

First off, look up hyperbole.

We need to remember that what we saw in that video was highly edited. They gave us brief snippets of an obviously longer video time-frame. We saw maybe 1 1/2 minutes of the actual video, and much of what they showed was the same scene repeated (obviously the sensational scene). This video was obviously spun to represent what they wanted it to represent.

Personally I give the benefit of the doubt to the police officer. The inescapable facts were that they chased the woman down and that she led them on a pursuit driving a deadly weapon (vehicle) in an unsafe and reckless manner. It is obviously disputable whether he used excessive force once the vehicle was stopped. I am not sure that the force he used was justified or not. You can see the car moving back and forth a little in one view, possibly supporting the officer's claim that she was still trying to drive off even after being blocked in. Either way the officer's fate is yet to be decided. If they determine that he was guilty of excessive force I hope he gets punished accordingly.

But what about the woman's part in all this? Her actions are only ambiguous if you choose to discount the official police report and believe only what you see in this news clip.

If all you saw of that news clip was the commentary of the woman you would think she was completely unaware of any reason they may have had for stopping her let alone hitting her, that she was just minding her own business and got jumped by cops. That is the impression it leaves after watching her interview. And that is what they wanted you to see. The story was very clearly spun, including that interview. Everything the woman did was "alleged" and down-played, but everything the officer did, including what was questionably his motive, is of course a foregone conclusion. You can say "well we can see the video of what the officer did", but that is exactly the point. It is the part of the video they didn't want you to see that is telling, more than what they showed you.

And if they follow up on this case I sure hope they let us know the outcome of her part of this, and not just how badly the officer got punished. Balanced and fair reporting just does not exist.

Oh and I imagine it won't be long until they report on the inevitable lawsuit.

A spate of shooting attacks on law enforcement officers has authorities concerned about a war on cops.

In just 24 hours, at least 11 officers were shot. The shootings included Sunday attacks at traffic stops in Indiana and Oregon, a Detroit police station shooting that wounded four officers, and a shootout at a Port Orchard, Wash., Wal-Mart that injured two deputies. On Monday morning, two officers were shot dead and a U.S. Marshal was wounded by a gunman in St. Petersburg, Fla.

On Thursday, two Miami-Dade, Fla., detectives were killed by a murder suspect they were trying to arrest.

The shootout at the Port Orchard Walmart was with the suspect who attempted to abduct a girl at the Clearfield, UT Walmart last September.

If by oof you mean Vinyl attacks Trout the same way Bluesrocker does, then yes, oof.
