What's new

Utah Jazz @ Cleveland Cavaliers, Monday December 20, 2010 5:00 PM MST

Guys, don't think either of these two facts have been mentioned yet, but firstly Memo is out tonight due to some ***** **** injury and also OMS Gerald Sloan is on the cusp of tying Patrick Riley for #3 on the NBA's all-time coaching wins list. A monumental night, indeed.

Who else has hard time concentrating because of the Cavs ridiculously shiny and reflective floor?

During Q1, Locke and his shadow arguing about how to change slump created consistently by the starting lineup.

Concern is expressed that any changes will hurt the production of the backups.

IMHO, starting CJ--or putting him earlier (makes more sense to start him) is a no-brainer.

Bell has not merited the starting spot, even though he's both a veteran and a character guy << rolleyes >>.

As is customary, the backups instantly bring a spark, turning a tie game into a 6-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

So to start Q2, Sloan gives Memo's minutes to AK instead of Fes, even though AK at PF hasn't proven to be particularly effective (and even though Kiri rolls to a 1-for-6 start shootingwise).

If the combination works, fine; but it hasn't been too convincing historically.

CJ hot early, going 3-3 and then 3-4. THAT's why I'd rather have Miles in early--so you can see how hot he is sooner.

I don't want to get in trouble for directly posting this, but if you want some thinly veiled innuendo (ok ok...no innuendo at all actually) go to Youtube and watch Andy Samberg's new song "I Just Had Sex (feat. Akon)"

I think the jazz are playing pretty well. Cleveland has made a lot of shots. But the jazz haven't given up one offensive rebound. That is big.

I see the jazz pulling away in the 2nd half

I agree, not a bad half. And I also think we win this going away.

Post game: Raja had a great game. Talking heads point out that he wasn't defended well, but they wonder why otherwise.
(Answer = Bell played more alongside Miles, which helps to spread the defense more than Kiri does.)

Kirilenko and Jefferson were mediocre tonight, yet they were rewarded with extra fourth quarter PT.

Evans and Fesenko both were DNP. My views on the damage of not developing Fes are widely known, but it should be even more clear that Evans needs PT, and Utah could afford giving Evans PT in this game and still win. Instead, Sloan gave backup PF time to AK, and it wasn't particularly impressive.

Meanwhile, Jefferson--and Elson, for that matter--weren't really warranting extra minutes. Instead, Sloan goes back to "his guys," and that near-starter fourth-quarter lineup cuts the lead back to 10 or less. AJ and AK deserved to play 5 to 7+ less than they did--precisely the bare minimum minutes that Evans and Fes should get on any night.

Kudos to the Jazz for winning a gimme. Unfortunately it was a missed opportunity for development--more for Evans, given that outside Varejao, the Cavs aren't particularly tall.

A nice win. We built a 20 point lead then kind of hit cruise control, otherwise it would have been much worse. I thought overall just about everyone but AK had a solid game. Nice double-double for big Al - I thought he had a pretty good game. Hopefully Raja is back on track now. Good production from CJ and Paul too. Again, nice job by the team overall. On to Minnesota. Let's get the W and finish off this trip 3-1!

Nice line from Watson tonight. 3 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 0 turnovers, 0 points. Love having him as a backup PG.

I would love to hear Watson's thoughts on playing for Jerry Sloan, and the difference between Sloan and that hack Jim O'Brien. Maybe a reporter will ask him about it when we play in Indiana....

I am quite content with Watson at backup PG. Haven't been able to say that about our backup PG since Eisely's first stint with us.

Watson is a bad ***. Plain and simple. Dude is a steady player that for the most part makes the right decisions...seriously, one of my current favorite players.
