What's new

Utah Jazz @ Cleveland Cavs, 5pm MT

Al and Hayward won us this game, everyone else pretty much sucked. Despite Al's nice game, the way he was helpless at stopping Irving at the rim over and over is why he can never be a center on a contending team.

Meh, Corbin mismanaged his minutes and the guards were doing a terrible job at staying in front of Jefferson. I wouldn't put it all on Jefferson.

Youth movement, development of possible all-stars, and the future success of this organization as we know it has officially been **** over and buried. Pure brilliance.

Hayward had a +/- of 0. CJ had +8. Even over a larger sample, can this be a useful stat?

Utah killed those guys on the boards tonight. Almost doubled their offensive boards. Every big but Evans had multiple ORBs.

Howard's inside game really sets him apart from the other wings. He didn't shoot great but getting those post points and especially those boards just makes the Jazz a different team. I was pretty down on him several weeks ago but the toothy ******* is growing on me. Like Hayward his length really helps him.

Jefferson had a nice game. CT's point about him being exposed playing with old slow PGs on D is valid. The Black Hole stuff needs to stop though, seriously. He was really looking to pass out of the double, very encouraging. Was very good on the boards as well and hit 7 of 8 FTs. It wasn't a superman performance and the asterisk is there with the Cavs missing AV but having your center sniff a triple double is always an impressive feat.

Hayward, if he ever becomes consistent, will be a critical component of the starting unit. Like AK, the Utah O is just better when he touches the ball a lot. Gordon made a lot of very good decisions and a bunch of nice hustle plays getting a finger on a ball. 4 boards and 5 assists is indicative of how smart and aggressive he was. March has arrived for Gordon.

I really hope Harris is ok. As flawed as he is Devin is a much more talented and complete player than either of the other points. Those guys just cannot stay in front of their man and since the bigs are less than stellar defending PnR it really compounds a critical weakness. Also rooting for Bell to get back into his groove. He is a very good fit with Howard at the wing.

Millsap kind of quietly had a pretty good showing. Jamison got his points but was not efficient. Sap dominated him on the glass and dished 5 dimes as well. It's unusual for your starting bigs to have 12 assists to your starting guards' 2.

Corbin was smart leaving CJ on the bench in the 2nd half even though statistically Burks didn't really do anything. The team as a whole had much better energy throughout the game compared with what they usually show up with on the road. Not too bad with a lineup change and losing Harris halfway through the game.

Love that Root plays the game twice. I don't have tevo.

Normally would be TLTR for me. But I started reading and you got me through it with all good stuff. Nice post.

This is the worst possible scenario I can imagine. The Jazz are playing just well enough to stay in the playoffs hunt. That means the youth development will be completely sacrificed in favor of those 2 extra games against OKC. You better pray for this "playoff push" to end as soon as possible, unless you're okay with Kanter getting 4 minutes a half (and Burks DNPs) for the rest of the season.
A .500 record won't make the playoffs. We beat CLEVELAND on the road. Jazz will probaly win at Charlotte as well. Then count on back-to-back losses at Philly and Chicago.

Besides, Cleveland is one of the teams trailing GS. Cleveland losing, and GS winning, helps the GS draft pick.

I think Utah can make the postseason. It's frustrating to watch a team struggle with inconsistency like this one has but there is no question the talent is there. Now, as far as the minutes go, Corbin did pretty well tonight:

CJ got his chance and played himself out of the game. Burks ended up with more burn.
Kanter had a poor game and consequently did not receive a lot of time.
Favors would have played a lot more if he could have kept himself from committing stupid offensive fouls. Millsap also had a much improved 2nd half.
Hayward was playing great and was rewarded with almost 28 minutes. A little more than his season average.

I don't get what all the crying is about. Corbin is playing these guys and his rotations are certainly not set. I guess it's just max the young or bust.

Favors commits those fouls because he doesn't have much game experience.
You need to play a lot of minutes to realize how much other players flop...

Favors wasn't in foul trouble and if I'm Corbin I play him at the 5 for 2 minutes when the rest of the starters come in before bringing Al back. But, the lead went below 10 points while that bench frontcourt was on the floor early in the 4th and once the starters returned Utah immediately regained a strong lead.

Like I said I'd have given the guy 2 more minutes but that's kind of a quibble really. Favors has got to play smarter on offense. He did make a very nice pass in this game that ended up a layup by Sap IIRC.
