Utah Jazz fans are famous for their passionate dislike — or even hate — of opposing teams and players. But according to Sports Illustrated, the Jazz themselves come in at dead last of the most hated teams in the NBA.
Calling the Jazzmen, "patently inoffensive," SI writer Ian Levy wrote: "While plenty of people hate jazz, no one hates The Jazz. They look like a legitimately promising young team this season, with no rough edges to irritate, no dominant style about which to turn up your nose, no offensive personalities at whom to seethe."

Surprising. I wonder how the Stockton/Malone days would have rated.

I would think definitely above the middle of the pack.

Once this team starts winning, especially if they start winning in the playoffs, they'll start generating a little bit of hate.

I hope the Jazz make the playoffs and we get Houston. I want to beat them and listen to their fans cry and moan at our hands yet again.

Pretty cool I guess. Could just mean they are the team no one gives a **** about either way.

I know I hate them the least.

Thanks for the link

At first my utah Mormon was showing and I was like, "Cool, they don't hate us, maybe they will like us one day. "

Then I realized that it was really a backhanded compliment, saying. The Jazz are kind of boring. And maybe soft.

I hope next year they hate the Jazz a lot more than they don't Hate them now. I expect some anger out of Rudy and Derek this year, I expect some fire coming out of Quin and seething through his players towards the opponents.

Malone and Stockton would be top 5 maybe top 3. The two utilized every bit of skill and guile they could muster to get an advantage. Stockton drilled his knees into the thighs and other regions of opponents who tried to pick him, I heard his knuckles could dig holes in opponents ribs.

Malone was infamous for the Isaiah Thomas stitches and the David Robinson knock out blow, but he also elbowed, kicked, slapped, shouldered, kneed and body checked many an opponent over the years. And worst of all he wouldn't fight the guy, that he just infuriated.

Ironic. I was out to dinner last Saturday with a friend at her friend's birthday and I was talking basketball with a dude who is a Lakers and Bulls fan and he told me he hates the Jazz (probably because Greg Foster dunked on Shaq and all that)

I would have thought we'd be in the top-15. No idea how a team like Charlotte or Phoenix is more hated than the Jazz.

You have got to beat someone to be hated. The fact that the Jazz are the least hated team in the NBA is an insult and nothing to be happy about. No worries, however, teams will start hating us soon enough.

You know, this is not a comment that I could easily slap away. Because there was a sense that the Jazz are boring before. But the change has started a few years back and it's still happening. And clever enough people can see it. The world is changing. And the Jazz are changing too as a basketball ecol. I reckon Quin Snyder will be one of the most respected and successful coaches in the league in a few years and refs will respect him. There are also some basketball fan-favorites in Jazz roster like Burke which Eastern Pistons fans like or Gobert which is one of NBA's hot shot right now. Burks will be very popular if he stops not giving a **** about anything. On the other hand, why would a team need other team's fans not hate them? That means they are unhurtfull. Not a good sign. Re-survey that in a few years. There will be some playoff big market fans who hate the Jazz.

Maybe I'm up in the night but I think this poll is kind of 2 fold and very positive for the Jazz. Either you HATE the team because of some sort of rivalry that has playoff/championship implications (has to be somewhat recent), have annoying players you hate and want to see lose or THEY ARE BORING TO WATCH!

I think what this poll tells us is that we haven't been good enough recently to create any sort of real rivalry. We don't have any whiny players who flop to get calls or have troubles off the court. Most importantly this poll tells us, there is some genuine interest in this team at the moment and people are intrigued to see what the Jazz look like.

Sounds like Stockton and Malone went to byu amirite?

It's because we have sucked the past few years and no one has much reason to hate us.

That was my reaction. Stockton/Malone Jazz may have been #1. I know they were rated as the dirtiest and many players said they hated to play Utah because they knew they were going to come out of the game sore, bruised and scratched.

I WANT teams to hate the Jazz. Utah needs to get physical and knock them around. Talk trash like Booker and Ingles. Make players HATE to play against Utah.

I asked Quin Snyder how he felt about this non-scientific ranking that was apparently constructed by a single author who apparently just wants clicks:

I remember reading an ESPN article where the journalist compared the Jazz to the Pistons bad boys and how they were the dirtiest team in the league, I remember thinking this guy really hates the Jazz.
