Utah Jazz vs Timber Pups Game Thread (7pm)

It's really hard being a Jazz fan.

We've had some really nice runs followed by some absolute stinkers. Some of the painful losses at home.

It seems like just when we are about to take off, all of the air comes out of our balloon.
I feel like a said kid at the fair with cotton candy on his face.

I mean, at the end of the day, what matters most is what you do in the playoffs. Even though we did not show any signs of promise for a good streak against the playoff teams, we should remember that how a team performs during regular season and in a playoff game are two completely different things most of the time.

I still want to see what this Jazz squad has to offer in regards to playoff hype and concentration against tought teams. Never really had this deep of a squad for a long time during playoffs.

I post, therefore I am.

Possession: Dante dribbles around a few screens and doesnt pass, pulls up for 3 with 10 seconds left on the shot clock

That's great

I've seen Hill brick 20 shots like that this year and you haven't said boo and I mean BRICK! God forbid he acts like a PG and tries to change the behavior of their defense who keep going under his screens...

Garbage!

WTF Quin? 20 minutes for Lyles???

Lyles had the worst body language the 10 seconds after he entered the game then 2 awful fouls back to back... He's the worst. He should have been benched for the body language alone, how he played another 20 minutes is beyond me.

Wheres the consistency Quin?

George Hill obviously needs to rest. He's been terrible lately. Good defensively for sure but offensively does he have anything more to offer than a floater and spot up 3?

Ingles was **** house tonight. Actually everyone was.

Just one of those piss poor games where all are tired and cranky and plain bad... It happens, let's move on.

I don't know if its funny or sad, but cowards on here bashing on Lyles. Our TEAM played like trash. Nobody played well, but we want to bag on a guy who played 20 of 48 minutes.

As for Lyles, he's got talent. That's undeniable. And like many one and done players, he needs time on the court. He has to play to get better. 82 games doesn't allow much time for practice.

Favors went through a month stretch before the All Star game where he was borderline pathetic. He was highly ineffective. And he's been a pro for how long? Yet a young pro like Lyles gets little leeway. Favors has proven to come out of his slump. If Lyles got consistent minutes, he could do the same.

Unfortunately, its in our DNA to shelve talent, not nurture it properly and eventually regret not doing more with it : Deshaun Stevenson, Millsap, Kanter, CJ Miles, Carroll, and probably eventually Exum and Lyles. You gotta play the kids especially since we arent contenders.

One sequence of plays has stood out to me the last two nights.

Down 4 with under a minute left, Westbrook hits a huge three with a guy in his face. Then on the other end, Hayward gets an open three and bricks it. Great players make great plays in big moments. I don't think Hayward will be clutch in the playoffs. Hate me all you want. Throw out his crunch time stats. I don't care. I worry about him when it matters most.

And I'm now convinced we lose in the first round, home court or not. The Clips and OKC Westbrooks will beat us.

Using these guys as examples is asinine.

Agree. And I saw it in his first 10 seconds on the court. He's just the worst!
Yeah Dante is the same way. I think we forget what it was like being 19 though. And I'm pretty sure none of us had the expectations these kids have at that age. No doubt their confidence is like a rollercoaster and I'm not sure we can blame them.

Yeah, or like when the hottest team in the NBA wizards were making a run and got close and Hayward hit back to back clutch shots to seal the game. Or like how LeBron down 4 against Boston missed a big shot after IT hit a big shot.

I'm not sure if this response is supposed to get a rise out of me. It doesn't. I acknowledged posters would bring up crunch time stats or in this case, the like. It still doesn't change my mind. Lebron, IT, Harden, Westbrook, they have a killer attitude and take games over when it matters. I don't see Hayward doing that enough in the playoffs to win a series.

Minnesota is better than anyone realizes. There point differential is - 2. So, they are losing a lot of games by the smallest margin in the NBA.

In offensive rankings they are 16th right between Milwaukee and Charlotte. Defensively they are ranked 11th. They have all the earmarkings of being a playoff team.

They have arguably the best big man in the NBA, one of the league's best coaches, and they are starting to gel. They are basically where we were last year, they have a talented young roster with no depth.
But, keep in mind, they are the team that beat the GSW this time last year.

This year the T-Wolves have beat:

Raptors
Clippers
Hawks x 2
Bulls x 2
Mavericks
Thunder
Rockets
Grizzlies

They are no joke, especially on a back-to-back and after playing what was essentially a playoff (level intensity) game vs OKC the night before. They are 3 games out of the 8th spot, and are making a hard push to be in the playoffs.

I suppose you see what you want to see. I think stats support Haywards play. I dont think there is any such thing as a killer attitude on the court and there is no statistics to support that. Player hit their percentages over time.

This was heartbreaking but I also expected it. As a betting man, I'm betting on underdogs in the NBA. Last night I picked two games below and would have added MIN too. But I avoid betting against my teams.
The reasons I expected the Jazz to lose: 1. schedule 2. UTA have a tendency to struggle after close defeats ala OKC. 3. MIN looked solid and focused their last game, in general they're much better with Lavine off. 4. G-Hill's mind is elsewhere probably because of contract talks and Hood was out.

Washington Wizards @ Toronto Raptors. Match Winner Including All OT : Washington Wizards. Odds: 2.66 . Result WON : 105:96
Denver Nuggets @ Milwaukee Bucks. Match Winner Including All OT : Denver Nuggets. Odds: 2.39 . Result WON: 110:98

Every great player in the history of sports has failed in a "clutch" moment. No one is 100% on anything.

Hell that same night Lillard missed a technical free throw in the final 10 seconds of a 2 point game. After they got the ball back he did hit a layup to send it to OT, but if he would have hit the FT they would have won. Then they lost in OT. So even a great scorer/shooter is regarded as "clutch" can even miss something easy as a freaking FT in a big moment.

Dont think anyone is saying they are bad. Everyone recognizes their talent. We shouldn't be blown out by anyone that badly though.

lmao, you are such a clown sometimes. Lebron was maligned repeatedly before he won a ring for his "lack of killer attitude". It's a ****ing narrative people use to place blame on players who arent hero-ball ballhogs in the final minutes of games.

Not passing the ball on a possession and chucking a 3 as a below 30% 3pt shooter is awful.

If Hill did it, it would still not be a great possession, but the fact is that he shoots it above 40% (or did last time I checked).

Dont be a whiny bitch. That was a terrible god awful possession and it should be treated as such. Dante isn't Damian Lillard, I don't want to see him taking those shots in that manner.

And he is a 28% 3pt shooter. They are going under the screen for a reason, it's because they know he has next to no shot hitting off the dribble 3's.

Wow, I didn't know we were allowed to use facts and rational thinking on the forum.
I really like Thibodeau and see the t-wolves making something with this team if they can keep the core together.
