Utah lawmaker wants to ban talk of contraception in schools

Anyone else find it a little odd that most pro-lifers are also anti-birth control?
Naw, the more discarded and/or poorly raised children, the better. It's no wonder the US has ridiculously high abortion rates despite being more conservative AND religious than most (all?) Western nations.

**** pragmatism. **** it in the ***. Hard.

also ironic that Spain, one of the most Catholic countries in Europe, allows both gay marriage and abortion.

What's hilarious is that on one hand, the conservative legislature rants against the fed government intruding in our lives. They claim that less government = better government.

Yet, they won't hesitate to stick their noses into this type of legislation.

I guess they're for less government sometimes and more government intrusion other times. It just depends on what agenda they're trying to promote.

No thank you. We prefer to cram our heads up our own asses instead. Huge difference, can't you see?
I'm not sure if this is a veiled attack at me or not, but hard as I try, I've yet to expand my ******* by enough to fit my massive head.

Nope. It's confirming your joke with a double down.
We prefer to stick our heads in the sands reminiscing of the good old days rather than pragmatically dealing with the issues of the day.
We have this black and white logic thingy to follow.
It has never failed us.
Schematic life 4 life!

Ah yes, the good ol' days, when non-whites, women, ****, children, atheists/agnostics, scientists, and dissenters in general knew their place. What the hell is wrong with this (technologically advanced, healthy, long-lived, rich, increasingly benign and just) country? We should be striving to be more like the Congo, dammit!

This new "5 repz a day" thing is really pissing me off. How am I supposed to get you to zero if I have to wait 24 hours to do so? It doesn't help that your other account is constantly feeding you greenz.

There is too much agreement in this thread, so I'll address this silly question.

What is so wrong with a teacher saying "The method I would prefer you to use is abstinence. However, if you are going to be sexually active, these are your choices"?

It is called a mixed message.

Liberal teachers would never think to say, "I prefer that you not smoke, but if you want to try here are your choices."

And of course every kid knows how to put a condom on a banana, but they don't bother using one when they go to knock up the cheer leader.

Watching GVC call someone a hack is like watching Carlos Boozer rant about someone's lack of defense and toughness playing through injury.

Seeing the Thriller call someone a hack who called someone a hack is enough is like seeing firemen desperately trying to stop their station from burning down, by using kerosene.

Ironiception.

I watched a documentary on Netflix having to do with sex and contraception... overall it wasn't really that interesting, and I'm not going to remember the name of it, but it was basically a comparison of views about sex in the US vs some more sexually liberal European country (Denmark, I think). In any case, what sticks in my mind was a bit where the guy was asking girls in Denmark (or whatever country it was) and then girls in America what they would think about a guy if they found out he carried condoms.

For the girls in Denmark, it meant the guy was responsible. But the US girls seemed to think guys who carry condoms are predators or something. Interesting comparison, eh?

Do you have anything to back that up with because I don't believe it is true.

I'm sure he could find a post in a thread on yardbarker or some other website from five years ago that would tell you everything you'd ever wish to know.

The stupid state legislature actually passed this crap bill. The version passed says schools are allowed to opt-out of teaching sex education all together. If they choose to teach it, they are ONLY allowed to teach abstinence. The bill is now awaiting the signature of the oh so wonderful Gary Herbert. An online petition has been started to try to get Herbert to veto the bill. Who knows if it will do any good, but it's quickly gaining a lot of signatures. It currently has just over 10,000 signatures. Here's the link if anyone wants to sign: https://signon.org/sign/gov-herbert-veto-hb363?source=s.fwd&r_by=3092045

Now the petition has over 11,000 signatures.

I was sitting on the house floor when this bill came up. It was hotly debated, but most people that voted in favor of it were verbally saying they were only voting yes so the bill could get killed quicker.
