Not really the same because California isn't the one who would sell the Jones Soda. In Utah all liquor, wine and "strong" beer is sold by the people of Utah through our state liquor agency. I would recommend the state getting out of the liquor distribution business and turning it over to people who have no moral compunction against it.
You're right in that it's only a few varieties of a beverage that we can't get. I also understand that the state hasn't banned these beverages, they just don't meet the requirements set by the state to establish an account with whomever distributes that beer. So it has almost nothing to do with the beer itself or state lawmakers wanting to keep it out. Most likely the beer just has too small a market and distributes through a company that for whatever reason doesn't work with the Utah DABC. The three tier distribution system is more of the problem most likely, one that hurts all small and/or independent brewers.
