Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Yeah, maybe you just go no trade. IDK. DL has tough decisions to make.
Thinking too influenced by recent activity. I’m not a huge trade guy but I think if you get the chance to fill a void, such as a shooting four, you take it. Favors playing well and people are clicking, but seasons are long and there are multiple highs and lows. We’re riding a high. I said this when we were riding a low. Hypothetically, if you landed a Love or something, do it. But most of the trades we suggest are lateral moves with perhaps upside but not really solidifying any holes. I’m always quite comfortable letting things expire and allowing two sides to mutually move on so long as doing so doesn’t cause us to miss out on a sizable return (i.e. I had no problems just letting Millsap and Jefferson walk, content with Marshall walking, and was counting down the days until Boozer walked [even though it ended up being a S&T).

I agree that DL has some tough decisions to make.

If you dont make a trade you better be positive Favors will re-sign and that you are comfortable matching whatever Hood gets. Otherwise thats a bad move.

Maybe JJ will want to stick around now that we look to be making a playoff run?

Favs has put together a string of really good play. Hood has these hot games in him. Teams can pay a decent price or we keep them.

We are out of the tank race and the Ricky Rudy thing seems to have resolved itself... no reason to force moves just to get "something". Sign and trade deals will become a thing again with no cap space.

Rubio, Favs and Hood is everything the Cavs need. Solves their PG, SG, rim protection and defensive issues all in one swing of the bat. Pitty they have garbage assets minus those picks.

If this wasn't a contract year for LBJ, and the cavs were not worried about losing him, would they be more inclined to trading the nets pick seeing as they are in win now mode?

I mean, we have a shooting 4, just not a starting one. There doesnt appear to be any starting caliber shooting 4's are available at an affordable price. Might as well just stick with the starting quality 4 we have, even if he isnt a great shooter (though he was raining it tonight).

Plus plans have changed. Rubio is the 3rd member of the big 3. Just nail the drafts and we golden.

Yeah I’ve got no problem with that. What I’m saying is that our recent play shouldn’t make us question or feel like we’re really on a huge upswing that it precludes making the right move to make our team better. This is a common phenomenon we go through where we want to move people when their value’s low but be too stubborn and attached to move someone when their value’s high. If we want to move forward then it requires making a tough decision and selling when it looks like things are really clicking. I’m not saying there’s a deal out there, just in general (I don’t like most the garbage we’ve floated).

Nothing has changed. Hood still needs to be traded. Paying him long-term is a mistake because it's going to be an overpay no matter what. Even if we're lucky and he only gets Ingles type money it's an overpay for what he consistently provides. And letting him walk for nothing is also a mistake. We need to get whatever assets we can get right now and move on. He's missed most of this winning streak anyway. We fine without him. Royce is balling.

Yeah, I was actually thinking about JJ. Any chance he changes his mind? I kind of look forward to cutting him in a way, just so Jerebko can get some more minutes, and maybe even Ingles more minutes at the 4 now that we have more wing depth, but I would miss him.

I think he thought we wouldn't be playing playoffs... so maybe he does hang around?

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d still rather have a shot with a team that’s more firmly entrenched in the playoffs instea of on the fringes.
I honestly dont think a top 4 team would take him, they dont need him.

There are sacrifices to adding a player like JJ also.

Way better to let them walk than take on players or salary you dont want. Based upon the ESPN article there may not be near as much money chasing players this year as there has been in the past.

I really like Joe and I'm grateful for his contributions last year, but I don't think his heart is really in it with this team this year. I'd rather Jerebco get his minutes. Hopefully Utah can snag a 2nd round pick for him, but if not I'm 100% down with buying him out.

Need to after a 3 who can play the 4. Someone like Gallanari would be perfect if he wasn't injured 60% of the time.

Does anyone have any interest in Melo?

If he could let go of his ego he would be the perfect stretch 4 in todays NBA and would extend his career by 5 or 6 yrs.

He doesnt really fit what OKC are doing either, kinda the odd man out.

JJ and Burks for Melo? (I wouldnt give up anything we need and OKC may want to move off that $27Mil next year)

Burks would work well with Rus and PG while JJ would do the same thing for them as he does for us, when the starters rest, feed the ball to JJ on a switch. Either he gets a bucket in the lane or he hits an open shooter...

Kevin O’Connor: One of the guys I heard (the Jazz) are targeting and who is very available is Avery Bradley from the Clippers. I’ve heard Bradley has drawn interest from Oklahoma City and from Utah. So it’ll be interesting if Utah will be able to add another dynamic defender in Bradley who can also hit spot-up threes.

Kevin O’Connor: Utah is in an interesting spot because I’ve heard for them, really, everyone is available aside from Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. But that doesn’t mean they’re trying to just sell off everything and tank. I think they’re just trying to reshuffle and get a mix together that they think positions themselves better this season and moving forward.
