Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

I've been saying for weeks (months?) that making a trade is hard and when DL surveys the landscape, he's not going to like the returns we'd be getting, and that a JJ buyout may likely be our only move. Nobody wanted to hear that because everyone was so insistent that we had so many assets with value and that DL was surely going to be spinning it into something nice, and to believe that he wouldn't means that you don't have confidence in the guy who got us DM and RG. Now we'll be faced with the cold, hard reality and everyone will jump on the cake baking bandwagon and repeat the mantra "it's just so hard to move people in today's NBA." The expectations were unreasonably high and attempts to bring those down previously failed miserably.

[I think that's why so many couldn't get on the Mirotic bandwagon because we expected so much more.]

Why do you feel the need to repeat the same exact point dozens of times? I mean, you even acknowledge that you're running like a broken record on this. Do you not find that behavior irritating when others do it?

Just a reminder of the stacked 2018/19 Free Agency Class:

Unrestricted Free Agents
Point Guards
Shooting Guards
Small Forwards
Power Forwards
Centers

Player Options
Point Guards
Shooting Guards
Small Forwards
Power Forwards
Centers

This is where we need to swing big, save every penny and go all in on multiple guys.

So getting Fournier doesn't cost us that opportunity and you said yourself everyone is clearing space for that summer... so it will be friggin crowded. We would end up coming away with someone in Evan's tier as a player is my guess. To play in FA this year we have to make some moves we probably shouldn't and the crop isn't great.

Why do you hate Evan so much? He looks funny but he's a good player... his contract isn't a bargain, but it isn't bad either.
Of course it does. You act like we could just move him if needed, but to where? No one will be taking salary past 18/19 so we'll be stuck with him or will need to add a significant asset to move him.

We obviously see the market, the cap and how teams are positioning VERY differently.

What happens when a bunch of the restricted guys extend and guys like Kwahi and Jimmy Butler get their megamax extension. Think we can lure Klay away from the Lakers or Warriors.

FA is a pipe dream. We could get Evan and still have 33-35M... if that cash doesn't land a second tier guy like Middleton, Tobias Harris, Niko, or maybe an aging Jimmy Butler then what? We'd have Gobert under contract for another year and just tell him we will get someone in 2020?

Evan is a player that can fit well with a lot of teams... if we needed to move him we likely could. I doubt Orlando would take peanuts for him, but if they want to get into the top 3 (worst 3) they might do it now.

I view about 15 of those guys as better than Evan and I was fairly generous... a bunch will never hit the market... Booker gets extended, Butler, Walker and Leonard are eligible for big extensions, Towns and Zinger will likely accept max deals this summer.

Some of the others may not be good positional fits either...

I want some space to navigate, but having $50M vs. 33M doesn't change that much for us.. If you can use that to get Khris Middleton then awesome... we have a legit shot at acquiring Harris or Niko in the offseason.

We can't just punt next year looking at a FA pipe dream.

Why are you still trying to convince me? I just said I dont view the situation like this.

And even if we strike out in FA Id prefer the cap room be used on a bad contract and great pick instead of Fournier.

Because that's what we do here... that's fine... agree to disagree.

Tyreke Evans is being held out of tonight's game with us so he's as good as gone.

I just hope he doesn't go to Cleveland. I am holding out hope that we can somehow get a deal done with the Cavs. Maybe get Love. Kinda a good news, bad news scenario. I wish we could have Fav for the long-term if he is going to sign with us but if he is gone, I want to get something for him. If we can get Love, we would pretty much be looking to next year getting a better draft position and getting Love for the future.

I’d assume you’ve poked around JF enough to see this is a common theme here, no?

Whoever mentioned Favors, Hood and Rubio for Love; I’d do that. Three weeks ago people would have given their right arm for that.

Was that stacked? Klay is good, but outside of a few restricted guys and a few who might opt out, I didn't see much. Kyrie and Kawhi are interesting, obviously, but I really doubt we have a chance on those guys.

Udoh out for "personal reasons". Man, that sounds like trade talks. Would be a good fit in Cleveland. If Utah wants to keep Favors for this year, selling on Udoh makes sense w/ Bradley in line for the backup minutes next year.

I dont see anything we could get for Udoh that would be worth trading him for. They are not giving up a 1st. There is no player I want from Cavs that they are trading for him and Udoh is worth more to us than a 2nd.

Unless he is part of a bigger trade involving more players than I dont see why we would trade him.
