Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

So not realistic but if we could get Porter and Mirotic without giving up picks that would be amazing. In my dreams trade !

I think New Orleans wants the option to keep Niko IF Cousins signs somewhere else. Niko doesn't want to be in limbo, so he wants his extension now. The Pelicans want a playoff run this year AND an expiring.

If it is a pure salary dump, I am not sure why the Jazz do not try to get in on the trade. Unless, of course, the Pelicans don't want to assist giving Niko to the Jazz.

Am I missing something here?

I would love to have Kevin Love here as well, but prefer Mirotic even though love is better inside with his back to the basket, and he's a better rebounder when motivated. Kinda Boozerish; doesn't challenge shots, so gets lots of rebounds. Love would cost more, is older, but has given up alot since his Minnesota days trying to fit in with that disaster that is the Cavs. Love is a historically bad defender. Still think there's a great player there that has been reduced to a three point shooter.

Nope. New Orleans wants the best possible expiring they can get for this season. And they have targeted Mirotic.

If what you are saying is true, a three-way trade makes too much sense. Unless the Jazz are targeting the first round pick instead of Niko - which I disagree with.

What is an adequate deal if we were to go after Jabari?

Good question. I am sure Derrick Favors and Hood would be apart of any conversation. We might have to take back a bad contract and give them Joe Johnson? Then give them a lottery protected first round pick or like a lottery protected pick swap or something that sounds worse than it is? (I am too lazy to go to the trade machine.)

And I am sure I will be accused of over paying, but I think Jabari still has a high price tag.

So a 4 team trade that only works for one team? I don't see those even in NBA 2k

Lopo would be embarrassed

I think it works somewhat for Washington They are rumored to be wanting to let go of Porter and Wall is out having surgery for 2 months. We then might be able to do something with Chicago for Mirotic still. Lillard is really a reach. Trades can be crazy though!

I was thinking we could go all out for Jabari and force the Bucks' hand. We could take both of their bad contracts (Teletovic and Dellavadova) and send Hood. Not counting Hood or Jabari's new deals, the Bucks would save $21+ for 2018-19 and $9.6 for 2019-20. If they think they can lure a decent free agent in 2018 or 2019, they would have a chance.

Favors, Joe and Hood

Jabari, Dellie and Teletovic

If Jabari doesn't pan out, well, Teletovic is done after next year and Dellie doesn't make way too much.

I just feel like the Jazz should jump in and say "hey New Orleans sorry about the Niko deal... what if we could give you Favs and Jerebko instead and we will take Ajinca too?"

We then turn to Chicago "Hey we can get that deal done for you by taking Niko and giving Favs and Jerebko, but we'd have to take Ajinca... you willing to take him and we give a second?"

I'd rather have Niko than Asik and the pick. They likely still make the playoffs and the draft looks kinda craptastic in the middle... I'm not an expert but there isn't a whole lot that gets me excited.

This just seems like such a rationale approach and I can't see who would say no... If NO was hell bent on Niko they'd just exercise the damn option and push through. So clearly they like him but they aren't ready to get married.

Also, Boogie will punch Mirotic in the face if he goes there... book it.

I think we would also have to include our 1st this year at least to start the conversation, hopefully top 3 protected. I am not sure if that is enough for them. They seem pretty high on Parker.

I think they roll things forward and move Brogdon or Middleton if they get in a cap crunch. Parker fits with Giannis on court and age wise.

This (the Pels want a good player for the playoff run, plus a team option thereafter) is what I've been thinking as well. But I'm not quite sure on the details of how it works (particularly if in late June or early July the Pels decide that a future with Cousins isn't going to happen, whether they can at that point activate the 2nd year for Niko without having to risk an UFA situation with him -- or with Favors if they went with the 3-team deal that's been popping up here & on Chicago boards)

Crazy conspiracy theory - New Orleans is refusing to include us in a three way trade because they are still upset that we have the Jazz moniker.
