Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Again:

Lyles became a damn good player, and he had value sufficient to get us Donovan Mitchell (who I take over Devin Booker).
Ok. With our 15th pick I hope we don't get Exumed.

I'd take Stanley Johnson, but not for Hood. I loved Stanley, but that shot is flat broke right now and there isn't enough other stuff there to make it worth it. I'll keep Hood thanks.

We don't have to trade Hood... there's a chance he doesn't get paid like some might think. Keep him or sign him to a tradeable deal.

Exactly. The notion that keeping Hood is a failure is just weird.

He has been dreadful of late, and also injury-prone ala Hood. Would be a great fit into this team though.

Was thinking a Hood, FRP, AB, JJ for Gordon and Fournier.

I think Evan may get moved in a salary dump type transaction... if that happens why would Gordon want to stay as they'd head for a full re-build... we would not have flexibility after re-signing Gordon doe.

They are a team to watch.

The thing with Jabari and Gordon is that Zanik should have pretty good insight into both guys. He'll know what Milwaukee actually wants to pay Jabari. If this hasn't happened already, Zanik needs to call the Orlando GM, who he worked with in Milwaukee, and say, "We're going to max out Gordon. If you won't match the offer, then let's make a trade now so you get something for him." Hopefully he'd be able to get some insight as to what Orlando is/isn't willing to do with him.

That would be absolutely bonkers.

I would be very happy with that trade.

I would hope we would still put some restriction on the pick, at least top 3 or 10.

you doin alright?

Not really. Terrible post. I do think the Burks and 2nd rounders to Atlanta is possibility. They asked for 2nd rounders for Belinelli and Ilyasova a month ago as long as they don't take back a bad contract. I don't think a contract that expires in 2019 for Burks is a bad contract. They need players....

As for Hood for Johnson and minor draft considerations, I screwed up there. I meant to say Hood for Johnson and 1st round swaps for us. If we can move up 10-15 spots in an upcoming draft, that could be very good for us. I'd rather have a #10 pick instead of a #20 pick in a couple years over a #20 pick this year.

At this point, I think we either have to trade for a bad contract and a great asset (Knicks pick for example) or do our best to clear off as much space as possible for a run at Parker.

Here is my full-on "**** it, we're starting over" trade proposal that won't happen, but would still be fun:

Orlando clears a ****-ton of money, and gets to start over. The Jazz probably have to pay the LT next season and take back some garbage contracts... but will have a legit core locked up for at least 4 seasons.

Not a bad thought, but I bet Orlando would prefer:

Favors, Johnson, Thabo and our 1st
for
Gordon, Fournier and Ross
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yc5xtfpy

All expirings and a lottery pick for those 3 players. If they are looking for a reboot, that will do it. The trade would save them $28.5+Gordon's new deal in 2018-19. That's $50+ million in contracts they won't have to pay out. They would only be left with $50 in contracts after they decline Shelvin Mack's option. That's a hard reset for Orlando and they would lose a ton down the stretch by waiving Joe and Thabo out.

LET THE RECORD SHOW - I wouldn't do that, but I bet Orlando would.

Pretty thorough video of his game highlights

I remember that Utah game and thinking he seemed to have gained more spring after his injury. He is so skilled offensively I think the key would be getting him to be an efficient, smart offensive player and to be a neutral defensive player.

Regardless of the deal made (as long as the Jazz don’t get stupid about it), I’d be very happy with getting Gordon and Fournier - even if it effectively locks the Jazz into their roster for 3 years. It’s a big gamble, but one that I could see paying big dividends. I like it.

realistically i have little hope for getting a good stretch 4 unless DL has some unknown trick up his sleeve.

prepare for more constipated offense

Pretty much skips the rebuild. Removes a lot of guesswork. I don't know if it's a champion, but... hell, maybe. That is a crazy athletic, gritty, well-rounded, good shooting defensive juggernaut.

If we added Fournier ($17) and Gordon (expecting Gordon to get a max which is $27 million first year WOW)

2018 salaries:
Gobert $23
Ingles $13
Mitchell $3.1
Bradley $1.7
O'Neale $1.4
Exum $10 (let's just say that's what he gets)
TOTAL: $57 million
Four&Gor: $44
New TOTAL (8 players): $101

Rubio ($14.5) - we could try to trade if we value Exum more
Burks ($11.5) - we would pray to trade
We are over the luxury at around $126+
Thabo ($5.3) - probably let go
Udoh ($3.4) - we would keep if we could dump Burks
Jerekbo ($4.2) - probably let go

If we did a trade getting Fournier and signing Gordon to a max deal, wow our finances are tough. Jerekbo and Thabo are casualties for sure. Maybe Udoh too. Burks would have to be dumped to avoid the tax. The most simple thing to do would be to trade Rubio for an expiring. And did you see, Hood isn't even on here.
