Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

I mean, this is Gordon's 4th year in the NBA and he is only a year older than Donovan. I think he is someone worth taking a risk on as the last piece. He has improved every year. He seems like a high character guy.

I just dont think Orlando is really that serious about moving him.

I’d be excited to have him but the acquisition price is high... his salary would be high and if it didn’t worked you are painted into a corner.

I think he could get better and Orlando has not been great at developing guys. If it was Hood our pick plus some salary relief I think I’d be all over that. I’m with you in thinking they aren’t that motivated and would likely want a bigger piece to show for the trade.

I mean, the price is super low besides taking on Biyombo.

Hood = a player the Jazz seemingly dont want long-term
Johnson = a dude who is going to get cut
Burks = the Jazz dont want him
1st rounder = really the only thing of any value in this trade to the Jazz, and it's likely never going to be better than Gordon

The only thing that sucks is cap-space, but if you have the 3 stars, you really dnt need to sign anyone else besides smart low cost pickups. The Jazz seem to be good at that. Go mine some more European league talent.

Just because we don’t want Hood long term doesn’t mean Hood doesn’t have value. I think we get a FRP for him.

I’m fine with the other stuff... I’d just be nervous.

I mean, without a doubt. That's an easy choice. I think they make you take Biyombo though and that makes it a harder answer. I'm also not even sure they would want Hood if they are really trying to tear it all down.

I think I do Burks/Johnson/Hood/1st for Biyombo/Gordon/2nd rounder tho.

If you max out Gordon (25 million) and sign Exum for 10 million a year, I think that puts you at 112 million for 9 players if you waive the trio of Udoh/Thabo/Jonas and don't bring back Neto.

So that might be a little rough. You have to fill up 6 more slots with like 10 million (I think the LT would be around 122 next year, right?). It's what most teams do who have 2 max players tho, so it's not unique.

This is brutal. This is the equivalent of... paying Hood and a first for the privilege to pay Aaron Gordon 40+M per year(17 for Biyombo's albatross and 25+ for Gordon)... I don't know about this one...

So, bottom line, all the other deals out there suck.

Are people really that low on Gordon?

What else are the Jazz going to do with that cap-space? Sign no one of note in 2018 before ponying up a max to a guy in 2019 whom I'm sure most of the board will also be apprehensive about?

It's not being low on him... it just leaves you pretty much no flexibility whatsoever until 2020. You will have to work with the exceptions to fill out your roster and I haven't even calculated what it means for our luxury tax. It's possible it sends us into the lux tax for next year and possibly the year after.

Like I said, if you did the deal w/ Burks in there and you paid Gordon the full max, it's around 112 million for 9 players (assuming Exum at 10 million a year and you waive the trio of non-guaranteeds we signed last yer). I think the LT is around 122 for next year. So sign 6 more players for 10 million. The Jazz would probably be willing to go a bit over, because they would dip back down below he LT the following year when Rubio expired and wouldn't be in danger of being in the LT the year after that because Biyombo would expire.

I think flexibility becomes overrated when you have your big 3 in place and have role players (Exum/Ingles/O'Neale) locked into long-term deals plus Rubio would expire in a year.

Plus the Jazz have been really good at talent mining Europe. Let's keep doing that. I think the Jazz are way ahead of the NBA in that regard. It makes being cash strapped way less of an issue if you are consistently finding cheap NBA ready talent in Europe.

And let me repeat a pretty big fact. Aaron Gordon is a 4th year player who is only a year older than Donovan and has improved every year in the league under coaches who have a big reputation for not knowing anything about offense.

I'm warming up to it... if we can keep Exum and be under the tax it might worth exploring.

If we can get Gordon + Biyombo for Hood, Johnson, Burks, and a pick...it is a no-brainer. Biyombo's contract sucks, but we could make it work. We'd probably have to trade Ekpe, whom I love, but to get Gordon, it's worth it. If you can pair Mitchell, Gordon, and Gobert, that's stellar, Keep Exum around, keep O'Neale around, you can make things happen.

Yeah, I dnt think it's happening though.

It just really doesnt make sense for Orlando to me. They should probably just sell of Fournier for w/e they can get, suck *** for another 2 years and hopefully actually nail some drafts. Pray they can start making the playoffs by Gordon's 6th year so he isnt totally done w/ the franchise ala Hayward.

Wall tweeted and deleted this. Wizards are a mess lol and everyone hates Gortat. Gortat also retweeted stuff about how the Wiz have more assists without Wall. I bet Utah could get a first for taking on his contract, but I don't think that's the direction they want to go in.

So is there anything ut thee that people find worth it? What’s our game plan? Draft two more diamonds in the rough?

Everyone is going to hate Wall soon, especially after his contract extension kicks in.

Why do they hate Gortat?

So I don’t know the context but obviously bagging on his teammate publicly. Interesting to contrast that with Mitchell’s support for his teammates publicly even when they suck.
