Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

I never said max. You assumed which is common.

WHAT I SAID

#1 - most of the league has ample 2019 cap space
#2 - are we a major free agent destination? I forget...
#3 - Aaron Gordon or Parker is a bigger acquisition than we ever have had in free agency

So you trade for the right to get the fantastic asset rather than hope really, really hard.

WHAT MDAV SAID

Most of the league certainly does not have 2019 cap space.

What about the last 140 pages where we'v been trying to get this through your head?

We need a MAX guy, always have since Benedict left. Im throwing 4 or 5yr MAX at Butler and ________.

Good luck with Biyombo, Gordon and your $15M guy though.

I don't have the time to tell you who has max space in 2019, but I will bet my *** that there are more likely free agent destinations available than our Utah Jazz. Have we ever signed a max free agent?

Deadline is almost here. Looks like Favors is staying. I wonder if the Jazz will extend an offer in the offseason, or if they'll just let him walk.

I bet he doesn't get any crazy offers. I'd keep him for what he's currently making.
They going to let him walk. They dont want to tie up future money. Wont be entirely shocked if Jae Crowder is the starting PF in 2018.

You're probably right. It's kind of sad. Been with us for ages. Always the professional.

RIP

No doubt in my mind that it’s better to keep Favors and start him and Jingles with Crowder coming in off the bench.

Crowder has been a starter the last three years... is a prickly dude... and will be here for three years. So yeah let's put him on the bench and start off on the right foot.

There are 8 all nba talent guys available and another 6 or so quality young guys.
We are one of the few teams who can pay 1 OR 2 of them!

I hope not. I like Crowder and think he can play some 4 but he is better at the 3. I dont think he is a starter at the 4. But we will have money if we let Favors walk to chase someone.

Imagine you just came from the trainwreck that was going on in Cleveland, and you were having to live IN Cleveland. He'll be fine with the chance to earn his minutes with a coach who wants to develop him further.

Train-wreck? Sure it probably wasnt pleasant, but he was never in the media during all that. He was on a playoff team with a winning record, as a starter, with the best player ever.

Now he is a bench player on a team fighting for the playoffs in Utah. You might like Cleveland better than SLC, but that isnt the case for everyone.

It's only fitting that we would watch Favors walk in the summer. Not meant in a mean way, but he will go down as the most disappointing player in our history. We had such high, high hopes for him. He was a decent pro and amazing guy, but he just never even got close to reaching the expectations we had for him when we traded Deron for him so many years ago.

There have been others who have disappointed (Burke, Kanter, etc., etc.), but we have hoped and hoped and hoped for Favors to emerge as a dominant force. Just never happened. I wish him the best if he does leave.
Dumb post

Yeah. Although, as Lowe pointed out recently, a S&T could make sense in 2018 FA. With few teams with cap space, the player gets more money while the team gets something in return: a player they like or a second rounder. Not much different from what is being offered i guess.

5 minutes to go!

Something will happen. Everybody is just staring at each other waiting for the other to cave. Eventually, teams like Denver will realize that keeping what they have is more important than a pick in the late teens. Cleveland will realize that their pick kind of sucks and they need help now. Orlando will sell low because they want a fresh start and any asset they can get. Atlanta will realize they are better off with a Hood or similar than trying to lure somebody this summer.

One this is unquestionable - about half the league has to shed contracts to avoid the luxury next season. So they either suck it up and do it now or risk it this summer or next deadline.

Not only is he NOT the most disappointing for me, he doesn't even make the most disappointing list.
