What's new

UTAH vs PHOENIX,12/14/12 @ 7 p.m. MST

I'm really happy that Kanter was able to break out while Jefferson and Favors were hurt. It game me a lot of hope for the future. I was worried about him developing and succeeding in the NBA. He showed a lot during those few games, at least enough for me to no longer worry, but.................

Favors is getting killed by Corbin right now. Right before he missed those games he was starting to really produce. Now we are left watching Big Al and Millsap play too much in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters. Favors should be coming into the game with about 5 minutes left in the 1st/3rd quarters. He should be playing until there is about 5 or 7 minutes left in the 2nd/4th quarters depending on how productive he is. Instead we are seeing Al and Millsap running out of energy before they are subbed out and that also has turned into those two looking a little tired to finish games.

One of the biggest advantages of this Jazz team is their depth. Instead all the starters with the exception of Marvin are seeing close to 30 minutes a game and we are letting some great athleticism rot on the bench.

All I can say is that I am so glad that I didn't start this game until about 8:30 so I could fly through it. Thanks DVR!

I've been seriously considering recording all the games so I can fast forward when there are no young guys in. I always spend 2 1/2 hours watching a game where my favorite players never come in, and we don't even win.

jazz are completely stunting the growth of talented young players. sometimes a team just has to accept it is time to rebuild and develop. jazz refuse to do that. do they really need the money from 4 extra games a year that badly?

i get so depressed when i see games like tonight where not a single one of our lottery picks plays more than twenty mins. do we just suck at drafting? its hard to tell because we will never know what we have in these players (well i guess we have some idea what hayward can be). teams have to rebuild and take their lumps while the young players learn how to win. all these young guys are so freaking behind the curve.

At this point I don't think that it is much of a rebuild at all. In fact I believe that it is an improvement to play Favors and Kanter more.

Anytime Favors and Kanter are in the game I dread a time out of some sort. I find myself watching the scorers table each time down the court worried that the starters are coming back in. The really sad part is it doesn't matter how well either of those guys are playing. It seems like Corbin has an addiction to the starters that he needs to have some sort of rehabilitation for immediately.

Intervention anyone?

Lindsey needs to cut him off cold turkey. No other solution.

Corbin's reasoning is is that he wants his players to know when they're going in and out.
Coaches like Phil, Pop, and Thibs don't really care about their players' feelings and bench whoever is sucking.

There's been some encouraging things about Tyrone's coaching so far, but his subbing patterns are especially bad.

To take it another step: i was thinking about the best teams in the league and trying to find one that just sits lottery picks on thier bench and i couldn't think of any.(yes it is mostly cause the good teams in the league usually dont have lottery picks).
Then i started thinking about all the stars of the nba... i couldn't think of any that started thier carreers riding the bench for the first 2 or 3 years.... rose, westbrook, durant, lebron, kobe, dwight, dirk, melo, love, curry, garnett, pierce, aldridge, rondo, griffin, paul, wade etc etc etc..... i dont think any of them sat on the bench for thier first 2 or 3 years.

Therefore if any of our four young guys are going to be stars in this league (granted it may be that none of them are) then i think that we are going about it the wrong way....... THEY NEED TO PLAY!

This.
I am happiest watching the jazz on the rare occasions when burks comes into the game.

Great point.

Can anyone name the last great player in the NBA that sat the first 2 or 3 years of their career? Stockton is the only name that comes to mind.

I do that scorers table watching also alot of the game.... i watch to see favors, kanter, hayward, or burks come to check in and get all excited... then when i see jeffy, foye, marvin, millsap check in i get a little saddened.

We ran a weird offense tonight. We only went post 2 times in the first quarter (a third time wasn't by design.) Ran tons of high post, maybe to 'share the ball more', and the offense totally stalled. Considering we didn't run or play defense, it hardly mattered, but I always watch our half court sets close and I didn't understand Ty's experimentation.

We laid an egg. It happens. But Ty took a page out of Sloan's playbook when he didn't call a TO in the first 5 minutes of the second. We only gave up 4 or 6 points on the differential, but we were running nothing and needed a teepee.

I pray Ty reads this: Randy Foye only has one skill: shooting. He can't drive, he can't pass, he can't rebound, he can't defend, and nobody benefits when he's on the floor if he isn't hitting shots except the other team.

Most importantly, he's NOT the type of player you leave on the floor assuming he will eventually rattle off points or be useful. He's EXACTLY the type of guy you yank when he's disconnected. I was begging for Burks, but it could have been Carroll. Anyone to stop the nightmare of Randy Foye tonight.

He's the new Roger. Better, yeah, but somehow Ty thinks he's really necessary.

The no Al-centric offense was obvious....and horrible. Painfully horrible.

'
I didn't understand the inbound play to Foye shooting a 2 on the baseline. Considering he's something like -22% from anything not a three...

It makes it even harder when you also have Al on the floor who is mostly there for scoring and a little bit for rebounding and not much else.
