Utahr Jazz vs. Memphis Grizzly-ol' vets: Derrick's Return: 7:00MT--ROOT, KZNS, NBALP

I saw a stat on screen tonight that Hayward has been getting to the line 9 times per game recently.

Hayward is strong and doesn't exaggerate contact... The refs let the contact go because it doesn't seem to affect the play. Favs has the same issue. If they went down or the bumps and grabs knocked them off their drive/cut they'd get more calls... It sucks but the issue is he's too big yo.

How is that Grizzlies ball?!?!?! You're allowed to tap the ball into the backcourt and get it!

Bull****.

Right call -- was not a tap. Booker controlled it and threw it. The rule:

a. A player shall not be the first to touch a ball which he or a teammate caused to go from frontcourt to backcourt while his team was in control of the ball. EXCEPTION: Rule 8-Section III-e (EXCEPTION).
b. During a jump ball, a try for a goal, or a situation in which a player taps the ball away from a congested area, as during rebounding, in an attempt to get the ball out where player control may be secured, the ball is not in control of either team. Hence, the restriction on first touching does not apply.

Withey and Pleiss getting more time has been one of the few "good" things to happen with the injuries. Obviously, Jeff looks like hes cemented his place at the back of the rotation at least until Rudy gets back. Pleiss showed you last night hes not just a worthless stiff. I watched a lot of his national games, and saw him in person in Koln this summer. He can do a lot of things, is a decent all around player, just leave him out in crunch time. He seemed to have a lot of solid games, but would make a few errors or boneheaded plays late. You saw that against Memphis too with the huge missed lay up. Typical Tibor! Although he plays really hard, has great size, and can hit a jumper. Hes not a bad guy to have on the end of the bench. Gobert/Favors/Withey/Pleiss not a bad stable of big men.

Conley was fouling Trey every time he went to the basket and was making a lot of contact with Hood on every play. There were a lot of no-calls earlier.

Which makes the call all the worse for inconsistency. With a Jazz bias, I tend to see the fouls missed against the Jazz. But in this case, I think we got more calls, especially down the stretch, and especially the critical Hood foul. Every team gets lucky sometimes, we'll get screwed in another game and it will balance out in the end.

Since I supported drafting Withey (back in the day), I followed him for a little while. He was unplayable on offense. He's made big strides finishing through contact (he isn't athletic enough to be a Tyson-Chandler-era rimrunner). If he can add a reliable jumper, then he'll have a nice career. The defense has always been there.

Great game last night. We're not even close to a victory without that performance.

Paying Ajinca 4yr/20 mil and dropping Withey is just crazy to me.

Except the Jazz were going to the hoop. The Grizz were settling for jumpshots. The Jazz created their own luck by running plays toward the bucket even though the Grizz defense is pretty good on the interior.

Pleiss had much better play than he has in limited action previously. I think he is getting used to the speed of the game. He still needs to avoid those offensive screens. With Withey playing well, and dancing Trey starting to show some promise our bigs will be deep when healthy. I wish Exum was healthy. He looked like he was ready to make a big leap is summer.

Rodney Hood had a pretty good 12 hours. After a career-high 32 last night, he & his fiancee welcomed Rodney Hood Jr. to the world this a.m.

I didn't even know they were expecting, I just remember hearing they were going to get married in the summer.

Apparently his aim has improved on multiple levels.
Your comment is funny, even though it doesn't make any sense at all. You think he has been trying to produce a kid all of his life and only just now succeeded? Even if that's the case, are you unaware that the moneyshot was not made last night, but nine months ago.
