if this rebuild goes teats up, then I think the biggest smoking gun will be our inactivity this past offseason. Cakk bakking was such a stupid ****ing idea from the outset.

This rebuild is bullet proof, I guarantee it wont go teats up. I believe it'd take nothing less than an epic run of bad luck to derail all this potential.
 
Derrick Favors for Dennis Schroeder and Al Horford.
Derrick gets to play in hometown ATL and can start at center next to Milsap
Horford is on expiring deal, but is sick of playing center. He can shoot comfortably from 20-feet so he could be perfect PF next to Gobert, Schroeder is a long and talented PG and could be Utah's starter for the future. Utah would probably have to include Neto or Burke in the deal.

Even with an initially slumping Hayward and an inconsistent Hood, we are in the mix for 8th seed.


We need to cool it. Zach Lowe is right. Last year wasn't fools gold, and it can be replicated. "No cake baking" has shown us how very valuable Trey Lyles will be-- and it has also raised questions on how valuable Burks and Burke are to the future direction of this team. Also showed us that Withey is an NBA player.

That's why you cake bake in a year when you don't need a ring. See what you have, see what your weaknesses are. Of course it hurts with PG cuz we can't know what Dante gives us, but we do know that we won't be needing a big answer for a 3rd big.


Utah has been the most injured squad in the NBA, still in the mix for the playoffs, and people wanna hit reset in a year where they weren't even gunning for a deep playoff run?

Next year is our year. It always has been. Cool it.

I have zero desire to trade for Schröder when we currently have Exum.


Like another poster mentioned, maybe a Lou Williams or Mario Chalmers type could be picked up at the deadline? The ceiling of Exum is larger than almost every option at PG available to us. That's what we need to remember.

I'm sure you agree that the "moronic-ness" of any trade fully depends on weighing the outgoing versus the incoming. Would you support trading Favors if it brought back a player on the next tier? I'm sure you would.

All the Jazz had to do was say "yes" to get Jackson. There was no reason to involve Detroit, and nothing they gave up trumped what the Jazz gave up. I'd bet you $50 the involvement of a 3rd team (The Pistons in this case) came at the request of the Jazz. I'd certainly pay that much to actually know how the **** they ****ed that one up.

Jackson just isn't a DL type guy attitude wise, plain and simple IMO.


First thing ever DL talks about when he's drafting someone is how "highly the college coach" speaks of that player. He said the same thing about Exum, about Hood, about Lyles...

Maybe not special like an all-time great / HOF career, but Stack was still a better player than Hayward though...Two time all-star, best year was 2001 when he averaged 29.8/4/5 (finished second in scoring ahead of Shaq, Kobe, Vince Carter).
 
People here talking about adding all these free agents regardless of cap and figure it out later yet we would rather trade a very good small forward instead of paying him cause the "salaries might not work".

Read the whole Lowe article past the first few paragraphs. He loves the position the Jazz are in, he is just pointing out the many directions and outcomes.

Should I go back and see if he actually "loves" the position the jazz are in, or will you cop to an overstatement? Not trying to accuse you, really, but that wasn't the impression that I got.

This is the biggest point. If we are going to get anyone near as good as Hayward, they certainly aren't coming for less than max money. Hayward is damn good.

One other thing to think about is how good hay might look if he was surrounded by shooters and better players. People might think if him as at least a top 20 player in the league. When this team gets healthy they are going to be good. When they add another piece or two they will be even better.
 
Everybody... It isn't that we wouldn't pay Hayward or that he isn't worth or that we wouldn't have the cap space. He has to choose us and we have very little leverage. He knows he can get max anywhere he goes and his new team can offer us a small incentive so he can get his five year max... The issue is he has to decide he wants to be here over everywhere else.
 
I think there are ways to improve this team without giving up Hayward. We could have both. We have assets to do something. We do risk losing him if we don't make some serious progress. This is the big problem I see with the Jazz. They play things too conservatively. You gotta go for broke at some point. Making one pick at a time in the middle of the draft most likely keeps us in the middle of the draft, or slightly better or slightly worse. Unless you luck out and find the franchise guy there.

I don't think that off-seasons like this last one are the main problem either. Some low level free agent that we have to overpay isn't going to make that big of a difference. We have to do it either by trade or the draft. I seriously doubt a game changer will ever sign here.

So our options are stay the course and watch Hayward possibly walk. Or make a big move, hope it works out, and hope it keeps Hayward here.

Maybe we do have to give up Hayward though. I hope not, but if it makes sense you do it. He's not untouchable by any means.
