Utes looking to hire Alex Jensen

Seems like Alex is a nice guy and seems to know the game. It'll be interesting to see how he does it he gets the job. There's a lot of difference between being an assistant and being head coach, but I hope it works out for him and the Ute's if he takes it.

Makes sense, Majerus always raved about Alex. The other guy they were looking at was probably Utah State's coach...I wonder if Alex could bring back Johnnie Bryant as an assistant he could be a good recruiter.

I think Alex takes it. Sure, he'll have to deal with recruiting, but you could argue that he'll have a longer leash on the hill than anywhere in the NBA (just ask Hornacek).

I thought Jensen didn't want to deal with all the recruiting BS? I'd put my money on Smith.

I don't know how serious Alex is about going to college but I am sure he wants to go back to being a HC so there could be interest. Either way it is good for both him and the Utes to interview no matter what.

I think Alex would be good for the Utes but I also don't want him leaving the Jazz and for that reason I hope Johnny Bryant is the hire get him back here locally and he's known as someone who is really good at developing talent. However I think both of them Alex and Johnny have their sites on the NBA so think they both would prefer to stay where they are at.

Any idea if Andre Miller has any interest in coaching? He's one of the savviest players to ever play, seems like that would be a relevant attribute in coaching (in addition to running point).

My guess is either Utah didnt want to come up with the $$$ or Jensen believes he’s got a head coaching job in the NBA coming up soon.

I don’t know how accurate the rumors are- if at all, but there’s a faction of Ute fans claiming that new Jazz owner Ryan Smith- a longtime fanatic and booster of all BYU sports put his fingers on the scale with Alex Jensen and swayed him from taking the Utah job.

It’s a little too tinfoil hat for my liking, but if by some chance there’s any truth to it, what an interesting dynamic now at play across the state of Utah sporting landscape. Hell, maybe it’s not too much of a stretch. If Smith could redirect Jensen away from Utah with a pay raise and/or a promise he gets to replace Quin should he decide to walk away anytime soon, all while blocking his alma mater’s rival from securing their #1 HC candidate, why wouldn’t he do that? If you’re the BYU loving owner of the Utah Jazz, probably the only thing sweeter than keeping Alex Jensen in your organization, is keeping him out of Utah’s.

Not gonna lie, if I owned the Jazz and the opportunity to put the screws to BYU presented itself, I’d do it in a heartbeat with zero remorse. But I’m a really small person...‍
