Veterans are coming...time to panic?

No, Lindsey mentioned the phrase "Bird rights" FA's. That doesn't mean Foye or Tinsely or Mo or DeMarre. That means they will be trying to negotiate with Al or Paul (or both). That is not overdramatic given the train wreck of an offense we've seen the past two seasons.
Relax Core4. I think you are overreacting a bit here. Just because they talk to them does not mean they are looking to bring them back. They could be looking at S and T's or just gauging value.
.
I'll be right there with you as a pissed off fan if they re-sign any of Mo, Al or Paul but just give them time to figure things out.
.
BTW when does free agency officially begin?

July 1st is when talks can begin, but no deals can actually be signed until July 10th. I still have no idea why they have that silly 10-day period.

I totally agree that getting worked up over this is silly. If they didn't sit down with their vets and discuss things they're essentially kicking them to the curb -- not good form, which gets around. Say Al's a black hole or that Milsap can't get to that next level, but both are quality guys who busted their tails here. They deserve better than the old "Don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out..." I think they talk it over with them and, if possible, help them land somewhere they want to be. Leave on the best terms possible.

What's all this about Enes, too? I'm not in Utah, so I don't hear legitimate gossip, but I haven't heard anything about him being dissatisfied or a wild man. Does he try to make pillow forts?

Thanks. Yea it seems stupid. At least I'll be around when they can sign. Will be out of town away from internet on the 1st.

Aw, HELL NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

LIndsey mentioned getting back around to the players that the jazz hold the Bird rights to. Corbin also talked about the Jazz bringing in vets. Have to listen to the press conference again, but it certainly sounds like the Jazz are not going to throw the youngsters out there and, in so doing, set themselves up for a top 5-7 pick. DAMN! This is EXACTLY what the next step HAS to be. With this current group and bringing back any vets, the Jazz can again compete for that 4th spot in the West in 2-3 years, have home court for a round, then get flushed out. Utah STILL needs a franchise player. And they could get one next season. I swear, I will STOP being a Jazz fan if they bring back Al. I'll even be on the edge watching Foye chucking up 3's while Burks wastes away on the bench.

After being THRILLED last night, I feel like someone has now doused me with cold water.
Take a chill pill, pal. The Jazz have to sign somebody and all FA's could be defined as veterans, technically speaking.

I honestly think Jazz will try to resign Big Al but another team will offer more and get him.

I wonder if Mo will change his tune when he realizes no one wants to offer him a starting job.

Or it could mean that he wants to do a sign-and-trade.

I've said it all along:

Millsap will be back for less than he made last year. That will humble him and he will finally accept his role as first big off the bench.

How hard can chucking 10 air balls to close out every competitive game be? I'm sure the team can find someone to fill that role.

Heat can't afford Mo and I don't think Mo is ready to accept vet minimum salary.

I guess it's up to Mo- does he want to start on a ****ty team for more money or get a title with Lebron for ****ty money
I think he goes for the title.
Then he closes the title game shooting 1/10 in the final 3 minutes of the game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Mo would start for Miami.

I think Foye and DMC are back for sure. I think they will of course talk to Paul and Al, but mostly to see if they can get a sign and trade done for trade exceptions, a la the Boozer trade. Al is not coming back, IMO. I think that's been more than hinted at recently. I don't know about Paul. I don't think he's willing to take a backup role again. So I think they are referring to at least trying to get something in return and not just let them walk for nothing.
- I agree Foye and DMC return. DMC has made it clear he wants to come back, Foye spoke that way from when he signed his contract. I just hope Corbin has learnt from his mistakes of last season, and plays DMC more and Foye less (Foye is a useful player, but not the way Corbin used him).

- Any S&T could also return actual assets rather than a trade exception, if a team wants to add Al or Sap but they're over the cap.

- If Al was coming back, we wouldn't have traded for Gobert. You don't need four guys on the roster who can play centre, even if Gobert is a project.

- I still haven't made up my mind about Millsap, but if he comes back and starts next to Favors, I could deal with that, as long as Kanter still gets plenty of court time, and Evans gets the role of 4th big.

- Facilitating a FA's move to a team of their choosing for the best money possible gives the organisation a good name with players around the league (or more precisely, their agents). That sort of goodwill can pay off down the line.

Jazz philosophy is that you only can win with veterans and that they are better players. You can suck as a player but as long as you have experience, you're the better player and you deserve to start.

But fact is:

Burke > Mo
Burks > Foye
Hayward > Marwin
Favors > Millsap
Kanter > Jefferson.

When was the last time a relatively young team won a championship. This team is at the very least 5 years away from competing for a championship. You need skilled vets to get anywhere in this league.
