Video Game Thread

Waiting a year or so for Fallout New Vegas isn't such a bad plan. Bethesda tends to repackage their games 10-12 months after release in a "Game of the Year" edition that includes all the downloadable content that they put out for the game post-release. $60 on October 19th and you get the stand-alone game, or $60 next August and you'll get the stand-alone game plus $30-$50 of downloadable content.

I got made fun of by kicky cause I play video games and I'm 27. Oh well, I hope when I'm 70 I'm still owning 12 year olds on XBOX live.

I don't know how it's possible, but the Ratchet and Clank series has always flown under the radar. I'm currently playing through R&C: Up Your Arsenal, first R&C game I've ever played, and it's awesome. The series always gets great reviews but I never hear anybody talk about them.

Does look good, but Castlevania has been all over the place in terms of quality over the years so It's buried in my gaming queue for now.

LoS really is rebooting the franchise. The reviews have completely underrated the quality of the game, and its ridiculous. It's a quality quality game. It's much longer than games of it kind to boot. The story, amtosphere, and combat is top notch. It does start a little slow depending who you talk to too (I didn't think it did), but picks up quickly. GOTY. Wouldn't regret picking it up.

Here is one place, where people actually know games discuss it. One guy there is named Sean, and I listen to all his reviews. I trust him more than other game website slop like gamespot. He's never let me down, and it's his GOTY as well.

It really does get pretty damn awesome after the first few levels. It's too bad many were turned off by the ho-hum opening stages.

A sequel to Demon's Souls has just been announced, the not-so-creatively-titled Dark Souls. But this trailer is pretty awesome:

Most of the actual gameplay happens between around 1:20 and 2:00.

I'm very excited for this... Demon's Souls was the reason I bought a PS3 in the first place; it was a system-exclusive I just couldn't pass up. Luckily for 360 owners, Dark Souls will also be coming to X-Box this time around.

Also, anyone else excited for Marvel vs. Campcom 3? It's out in about a week, and I've already pre-ordered my copy. Fighting games tend to bore me nowadays (and I'm more of a Tekken guy than a 2-day fighter guy anyways), but this one just looks too cool to pass up. They've got a really great cast of characters, many of whom are brand new to the franchise... I'm looking forward especially to Amaterasu (Okami), Dante (Devil May Cry), Wesker (Resident Evil), and Dormammu (Dr. Strange villain). Lots of video out there for this one, but here's some video of a pre-release tournament:

First actual gameplay footage starts at around 1:30.

I had a beta copy of Doom, the original, on 3.5" floppies. I think maybe growing up on Wolfenstein and Doom as the top dogs for so long I don't enjoy 3rd person video games much. I prefer the first person perspective. Can't wait for this one:

Wanted to put in the trailer but it is probably NSFW or at least NSFJFM (not safe for jazzfanz moderators).

I'm looking forward to the release of the new Twisted Metal for PS3. I still haven't heard a firm release date. Last I heard was sometime in the Spring. I really want some online Twisted Metal action.

Twisted Metal 2 was probably my most favorite game when I was 12 years old. Must've beat that game at least 50 times and played deathmatches at least a couple hundred times.

Fun fact: My dad used to work for Evans & Sutherland writing programming for flight simulators and whatnot. About six guys worked there with him until they left to form their own company - Singletrac. And Singletrac made the 1st and 2nd Twisted Metal along with Twisted Metal Black. Pretty cool stuff!

Man thanks for the heads up and the reminder that I need to get back to playing this, got Black Ops and kinda got side tracked playing online. I've almost got every boss beat just having bad luck farming/dropping spider stone (only have +2 or +3 I forget) ended up getting frustrated and just using the lava bow.
Also looking forward to the Oblivion release and the Dragon Age release.

That is cool, but part of what you said is wrong. Twisted Metal: Black was made by Incognito, which is the company that formed from the ashes of Singletrac. So yes I guess you could say Singletrac made it, but it's not technically correct. The new PS3 Twisted Metal is being made by Eat Sleep Play, which is the company started by David Jaffe and Scott Campbell from the ashes of Incognito.
