What's new

Viruses, Trojans, Worms.. You Name It

Avast antivirus, spybot search and destroy, and microsoft windows defender. All free.

I lied microsoft windows defender isn't great, but microsoft security essentials is exceptional which is very surprising.

Double entendre thread.

Yeah, I've had that but it wasn't getting rid of some of the infected files for some reason. I think I'm go to go ahead and use what cash I have left over from my taxes and purchase Norton. Seems pretty good.

Stay with Malware Bytes. Trust me. Start your computer in safe mode (if you don't know how, google it, it's easy) and THEN run your scan. It will destroy all of those little bassturds.

Dude, Norton and McAfee are bloated loads of ***. Don't use either one.

If you want a decent active (as opposed to passive) anti-virus program, I'd check out BitDefender. But still, the ultimate way to prevent viruses is to control your browsing and use free programs (or a combination.. one program isn't ever going to solve everything).

One thing that will help with viruses is to run your scan in safe mode to get into safe mode just after your turn on your computer start pressing the f8 key a bunch a little menu should come up that lets you get into safe mode. Run your scan here and you should see improved virus removal.

My favorite programs are as follows

Antivirus - Mirosoft Security Essentials, AVG Free Edition, AVAST Free Edition, Avira Free Edition

Spyware - Spybot Search and Destroy, Super Anti-Spyware Free Edition, Ad-Aware Free

Malware - Malwarebytes

Granted these days the lines are becoming blurred as each piece of software starts to also take care of problems from the other categories now. PM me if you need additional help.

USC has had some big problems, mainly with the middle problem... but could not find a reasonable way to get rid of them.

Seriously though, you might also try SuperAntiSpyware, and again... Spybot Search and Destroy.

no offense intended, but your screen name sounds like some sort of virus, bug or disease

Exactly, however I'm really tricky and recommend antivirus software in a thread I didn't create. It helps me keep a low profile.

I think Window Security Essentials is better than anticipated. I have teenagers and preteens on the computer and internet a lot. As a result I pick up lots of these kinds of things since they just don't know what to click on and what not to. A few years ago I was using SpyWare Doctor plus Antivirus, with which I was quite impresses, but since they didn't keep up with the virus developers and other antivirus software I dropped them and bounced around some free ones along with HijackThis and Malwarebytes. I got tired of the manual processes and when I upgraded to Win 7 I gave Security Essentials a try. It has performed very well, surprisingly well. Well enough that I am running some of the manual stuff on a monthly basis at most (it also helps that I have my computer set to block certain sites and have trained my kids better on what can be dangerous). Anyway, I recommend it.

Totally agreed. I'm almost ashamed at how impressed I am with a free Microsoft product.
